Why is this Happening to me? Luke 1:39-55

1. Mary has to leave her home town39 In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the country,

• Mary leaves town maybe her parents ask her to leave, maybe Joseph is upset with her, maybe she leaves because she is pregnant without a husband.

• Maybe she needs distant from stuff Mary may have been ridiculed in her home town.

2. Mary needs someone to lean on

• Everybody needs someone to lean on the song we all have pain we all have sorrow, we need someone to help us carry on.

• Elizabeth is someone Mary can lean on. Consider how Mary greets her the Bible says in a loud voice she proclaimed, Blessed are you among women and blessed is the child you will bear.”

• Probably the towns people didn’t connect to Mary like Elizabeth

• The folks in town probably said, cursed are you, cursed are you to have brought such a fate down on yourself, and Joseph and upon your family.

3. Elizabeth welcomes the unworthy One

• Most people avoided Mary she was considered a hardened sinner Elizabeth does’t avoid Mary

• Elizabeth basically told Mary “ just call on me brother when you need a hand, we all need someone to lean on”She welcomes Mary with open arms and she blesses her

• Elizabeth tells Mary “ I-will be your friend I’ll help you carry on.”

• More than just accepting she treats Mary as an extremely special person. Elizabeth says, “ why has this happened to me that the mother of my Lord comes to me”.

4. This Sunday Mary gives us Jesus, Elizabeth gives us Christianity

• Mary was approached by an angle and she voluntarily gave birth to Messiah, King of Kings,

• Elizabeth gives us Christianity she shows us how we should treat the unworthy

• She shows us how to treat the unpopular Zacceous the tax collect I must abide in your house today

• She shares how we should the unwanted She shows us how to deal with all people kindly

• She shows us that we can be Christian by offering kindness, goodness, openness, understanding, by not judging, and acceptance of those who society shunned.

• Mary gave us Jesus the greatest gift ever given.

5. What gifts can we share or give to each other?

• God gives us the gift of rejoicing in one’s spirit Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord,

47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, We rejoice because the Mighty One has done great things.

• God gives the gift of Mercy, He has given the gift of strength, he has filled the hungry,

• Mary gave us the gift of Jesus Elizabeth gives us the gift how to treat People:

6. Why has this happened to me?

• Mary may have wondered why is this happeing to me?

• Elizabeth for sure wondered she said, “. 41 Elizabeth said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. 43 And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me?

• Do you ever ask why is this happening to me? Why am I so blessed not with stuff but blessed of God I think Because of John 3:16
