As we do so, I want to share a quote from Thomas Brooks. He once said, "We trust as we love, and where we love. If we love Christ much, surely we shall trust him much." Isn't that just the profound truth we all need to hear?

"He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth."

His divine nature and unwavering commitment to the will of God: In His silence, Jesus demonstrated a profound trust in God's plan, a trust so complete that He did not feel the need to defend Himself or to justify His actions. This is a powerful lesson for us, as we often feel the need to defend ourselves when we are accused or misunderstood. It challenges us to cultivate a spirit of humility, recognizing that our own understanding and abilities are limited and that we must rely on God's wisdom and strength.
His love for us: He willingly endured the pain and humiliation of the cross, refusing to speak out in His own defense, because of His love for us. His silence is a testament to the depth of His love, a love so great that He was willing to sacrifice Himself for our sake. This is a love that we are called to emulate in our own lives, a love that is willing to endure suffering and sacrifice for the sake of others.
His obedience to God: Despite the pain and suffering He was facing, He remained obedient to God's will, refusing to speak out in His own defense or to question God's plan. This obedience is a model for us, as we are often tempted to question God's plan or to assert our own will in the face of adversity. Yet, Jesus shows us that true obedience involves surrendering our own desires and trusting in God's plan, even when it involves suffering and sacrifice.
