Topic: Why Does God Loves Us

By Ptr Arsenio “Jack” Segismundo

Text:

I John 4:7-12

”7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”

Intro:

We may be wondering why did God even bother to love us? What do we have that God love us? This may be the question that may be cropping in our minds. We really cannot find the right answers in us why God loves us.

The following are the thoughts that we may regarding such actions of God:

I. God did not love us because of our looks.

Sure enough this may not have been the probable reason why because:

A. We are with blemish

2 Corinthians 4:16

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”

B. We have a perishable body

1 Corinthians 15:54

“When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

C. We have infirmities

Matthew 8:17

“This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.”

II. God did not love us because of our riches

A. The Earth is the Lord’s, the Bible declares:

Psalm 24:1

“The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;”

Everything in the world including us belongs to God.

B. What can you offer God for Him to love you

Isaiah 64:6

“All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.”

C. God cannot be bribe for Him to love you

III. God did not love us because of our intellectual capacity

A. No one is wiser than God

1 Corinthians 3:19

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”;

B. What can you know that God does not know

1 Peter 1:1-3

“1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,To God’s elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, 2 who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.”

C. God has the foreknowledge of everything He is Omniscient

IV. God does not love us because of our own righteousness

A. We have a deceitful hearth

Jeremiah 17:9

9 The heart is deceitful above all things

and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

B. We are sinful

Romans 3:10-12

“10 As it is written:

“There is no one righteous, not even one;

11 there is no one who understands;

there is no one who seeks God.

12 All have turned away,

they have together become worthless;

there is no one who does good,

not even one.”[a]

V. God love us because it is His nature to love

A. God loves us unconditionally

1 John 4:16

“God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.”

B. God love us first

(1 John 4:9-10)

“In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

C. God demonstrate His love by making us his children

(Ephesians 1:5)

“In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will . .”

Conclusion:

Finally let us all be exhorted with the words of Apostle Paul:

Rom 5:6-8

6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
