“Why Do We Need To Pray?”

Philippians 4:6-7

A. The PRESCRIPTION for prayer. (v. 6) 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18; Colossians 4:2; 1 Peter 4:7

1. So as to avoid PREOCCUPATION. (v. 6a) be careful for nothing Daniel 3:16; Matthew 6:25-34; 10:19; Luke 10:41

2. So that we may bring our PLEAS in all things to Him. (v. 6b) but in everything by prayer 1 Samuel 30:6; 2 Chronicles 33:12-13; Psalm 55:17; 62:8; Jeremiah 33:3; Matthew 7:7-8

3. So as to bring our PETITIONS to Him with gratitude. (v. 6c) and supplication with thanksgiving Proverbs 3:5-6; Ephesians 6:18; Colossians 1:3; Romans 12:12

4. So as to PRESENT all our requests to Him. (v. 6d) let your requests be made known unto God 1 Peter 5:7; Psalm 55:22; Daniel 6:10; Ephesians 5:20; Colossians 3:15, 17

B. The PURPOSE of prayer. (v. 7) Hebrews 4:16; 10:22-23; 13:6; Isaiah 55:6-7; 2 Corinthians 12:8-10

1. So that the PEACE of God which surpasses our understanding will envelope our lives. (v. 7a) and the peace of God which passeth all understanding Psalm 29:11; 85:8; Isaiah 26:3, 12; 55:11-12; Jeremiah 33:6; John 14:27; 16:33; Romans 5:1-2; 15:13; Galatians 5:22; Hebrews 13:20

2. So that God would PROTECT our hearts and minds through Jesus. (v. 7b) shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus Nehemiah 8:10; Proverbs 2:11; 1 Peter 1:4-5; Ephesians 2:18; 3:12
