Why Do We Need a Savior, and Why Is Jesus That Savior?

Key Text: Romans 3:23-24

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus."

Introduction

We live in a world that is constantly searching for solutions to financial, health, social, and personal problems. However, humanity's greatest problem is sin, and this problem has only one solution: a Savior.

Today, we will explore two fundamental questions:

1. Why do we need a Savior?

2. Why is Jesus that Savior?

I. Why Do We Need a Savior?

1. Because of our sinful condition

• The Bible is clear about humanity's condition:

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

• Sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2). No matter how good or moral we try to be, our nature is fallen, and we need redemption.

2. Sin brings spiritual and eternal death

Romans 6:23 declares: "For the wages of sin is death."

• Death is not only physical but also spiritual and eternal, meaning total separation from God. Without a Savior, our eternity would be lost.

3. Our good works are not enough

Ephesians 2:8-9 says: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."

• Humanity cannot save itself—not by works, religion, or morality. Only a perfect Savior can pay the debt of sin.

II. Why Is Jesus That Savior?

1. Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world

• In John 1:29, John the Baptist pointed to Jesus and said: "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"

• From the Old Testament, God established that without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 9:22). Jesus was the perfect sacrifice.

2. Jesus is the only mediator between God and humanity

1 Timothy 2:5 states: "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus."

• No one else can reconcile us to God—not angels, saints, or rituals. Only Jesus can.

3. Jesus lived without sin and died for us

Hebrews 4:15 teaches that Jesus was tempted in every way, yet without sin. This qualifies Him as the perfect sacrifice.

• His death was substitutionary: "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5).

4. Jesus rose again, conquering death

• Jesus' resurrection proves that He has power over death and that His sacrifice was accepted by God (1 Corinthians 15:20-22).

• By trusting in Him, we partake in His victory.

III. How Do We Respond to This Truth?

1. Acknowledge our need for salvation

• Admit that we are sinners and that we need a Savior.

2. Accept Jesus as our personal Savior

Romans 10:9: "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

3. Live a life transformed by His grace

• When we accept Jesus, our lives change. We become new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Conclusion

We need a Savior because sin separates us from God, and we cannot save ourselves. Jesus is that Savior because He is the only one who lived without sin, died in our place, and rose again to give us eternal life.

Today, Jesus invites you to come to Him. Will you accept His love and salvation?

Call to Action:

If today you recognize your need for a Savior and want to receive Jesus into your heart, take this moment to pray and surrender your life to Him. He is waiting for you with open arms.
