• The idea for Mothers Day was born in a small Methodist church in Grafton, West Virginia?

• While teaching a Memorial Day lesson, Mrs. Anna Reeves Jarvis thought of mothers who had lost their sons. She prayed that one day there could be a "Memorial Day" for mothers.

• The prayer made a deep impression on one of Mrs. Jarvis eleven children. Young Anna had seen her mothers efforts . As she grew into adulthood, the younger woman kept Mrs. Jarvis dream in her heart. On the day of her mothers death, Anna was determined to establish Mothers Day in her honor

• On May 8, 1914, President Wilson designated the second Sunday in May as Mothers Day "for displaying the American flag and for the public expression of love and reverence for the mothers of the country."

• Mother’s Day is a very important day to honor our mothers and we should honor them every day. A child without a mother is like a door without a knob. Jewish proverb

• The King of Egypt commanded the two Hebrew midwives, ,

• These women feared God more than the Pharaoh in Exodus who could have easily had them killed. They knew what they did in God’s eyes mattered most.

5. We honor Mothers because they give awesome advice

• My Mom said, “Be good to people Gerald They will be good to you”

• Wear a tie Gerald to church. Wear the best you have and if the best is jeans with holes wear them.

• Mother Teresa said, “Life is an opportunity, benefit from it. Life is beauty, admire it.

• Life is a dream, realize it. Life is a challenge, meet it.

• Life is a duty, complete it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a promise, fulfill it. Life is sorrow, overcome it. Life is a song, sing it. Life is a struggle, accept it.

• Life is a tragedy, confront it. Life is an adventure, dare it.

• Life is luck, make it. Life is too precious, do not destroy it. Life is life, fight for it”

6. We honor Mothers because Mothers take risks

• Joanna her husband Chuza was King Herod’s right hand man. She either had a terrible disease or was overcome by evil spirits. Jesus healed her, restored her, and accepted her.

• Most amazing of all, Joanna supported Jesus and the apostles “out of her own means,” (Luke 8:3). Herod the Tetrarch had John the Baptist beheaded.

• She supported Jesus’ ministry with her family’s finances.

• Joanna’s role in Jesus’ ministry was a risk, but her connections to the palace didn’t deter her from her calling. She gladly risked it all for her Lord.

• God rewarded Joanna for her dedication. She was among the first to see the empty tomb and learn that Jesus Christ - her Healer and Deliverer - had risen, just as he promised.

7. We honor women because God gave women miracles as well as men

• Hannah suffered barrenness but she prayed the bible says the Lord remembered her plea, and in due time she gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, for she said, ‘I asked the Lord for him’1 Samuel 1:19-20).

• Elizabeth also was barren but she said, “ “How kind the Lord is!” she exclaimed. “He has taken away my disgrace of having no children.” (Luke 1:25). She gave birth to John the Baptist
