Why do we go to church?

Good Morning

Stand with me and lift your bible and repeat after me.

This is my Bible.

I am what it says I am.

I can do what it says I can do.

I am going to learn how to be what it says I can be.

Today I will learn more of the word of God.

The indestructible, never ending, living word Of God.

I will never be the same.

I will never be the same.

In Jesus Name

Amen?

Before you sit down, say good morning to your brothers and sisters, safely.

Why do you and I go to church?

Is it for just meeting people?

Is it to be entertained?

Is for just being able to say, “Yea, I go to church?”

We need to want to go to church because of God, not because of people.

You and I are in a much different era than the way things have been over the years.

In the early 1900’s here in the United States, they say that it was strange to see people on the streets of major cities unless they we going to church.

All stores used to be closed on a Sunday.

It was very unusual to see a restaurant open.

You could not buy liquor or go to a bar because they were closed on Sundays.

Why was that and why has it changed?

Is it because people are trying to be locked into the world more than God?

Yes.

Is that the call for us to answer?

No. We go to church because God wants us to gather with others that know Him and want to be fellowshipping with others who do.

To be encouraged.

To serve Him.

Your call and mine in life is to use the gifts that God has put into us when we were saved by grace and use them.

Now we are called to be giving in our lives.

As a giver there are different parts.

One is of course financial.

The other is the big one.

Giving of yourself.

I am talking about serving others.

The reason your church is growing or is about to is when we make the step into the community and share the love of Jesus Christ.

That will make our mission to show who He is grow even more is because of answering the call.

What can we do?

Matthew 5:14 says, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”

We are not called to just stay at our church and not do anything else.

Our calling is to show what He shares in this verse. We live in a world full of darkness. There are not many great things happening in our world today.

If you watch the news on TV, you see what I mean.

The hard part about living in our world is that we may not be looking at things the way the Lord wants us to. We watch what people are doing and try and be like them in many ways.

What we wear.

How we look.

What we do in our lives.

How many friends do we have on social media.

Verses 24-26 in Matthew Chapter 7 are more of what He calls us to do.

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

24 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.”

I have been foolish in my lifetime.

I have missed some opportunities that have come before me to share the love of the Lord, but I have learned from my mistakes.

We all can.

And we all will.

But like the disciples, we learn as we go.

They learned after the crucifixion when Jesus returned to see them, that what He had taught them, showed them, and shared with them was real.

They knew what He had called them for.

To do a different type of fishing.

Fishing for people that would get to know what a real relationship with God was and would be like.

That is what you and I are called to do.

You probably think that you are not good enough.

I was that way.

It takes things just like what the disciples experienced to be able to share who Jesus is and what He has done in our lives.

I did not think that He would find in me what was needed to share Him with anyone.
