Summary: WHY WAS PETER THE ONLY ONE TO GET OUT OF THE BOAT?
WHY DIDN’T THEY GET OUT OF THE BOAT?
Matt. 14:22-33
Intro: They saw it was Jesus, they heard his voice tell Peter to come, they saw Peter walk on the water. YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD BE JUMPING OUT CALLING ON JESUS TO CALL ME.
So why did they stay in the boat?
FEAR- >noun 1 an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm. 2 the likelihood of something unwelcome happening.
BUT THE BIBLE TELLS US
2Ti 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Ro 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
1Jo 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
IT IS REAL EASY TO QUOTE IT BUT IT’S ANOTHER THING TO GET OUT OF THE BOAT.
WHY DID THEY STAY IN THE BOAT?
1. FEAR OF THE STORM.
Mt 14:24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
TOSSED-basanizo, bas-an-id'-zo - to torture:--pain, toil, torment, toss, vex.
LIFE CAN DO THAT TO US
CONTRARY- enantios, en-an-tee'-os - opposite; against, contrary.
LIFE CAN TOSS US AND BE AGAINST US SOMETIMES BUT WE STILL NEED TO GET OUT OF THE BOAT.
2. FEAR OF FAILURE. WHAT IF I SINK I WILL DIE
DO YOU THINK JESUS WOULD HAVE LET THEM DIE
Mt 14:22 ¶ And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
ALL THINGS- pas, - all, any, every, the whole:--all (manner of, means), alway(-s), any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no(-thing), X thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever.
THIS IS THE SAME WORD IN JOHN 3:16
IF JESUS CAN SAVE WHOSOEVER I CAN DO WHATSOEVER
3. FEAR OF DOING SOMETHING NEW.
WE NEVER DID IT LIKE THAT BEFORE
IF PEOPLE HAVE A FEAR OF DOING SOMETHING NEW HOW DID THEY EVER GET SAVED?
2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Re 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
4. FEAR OF THE MAJORITY
ONLY ONE GOT OUT THE BOAT-11 STAYED BEHIND
Numbers 13:30-32 KJV 30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. 31 But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
THE MAJORITY IS NOT ALWAYS RIGHT
Nu 14:37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.
DON’T LET THE MAJORITY KEEP YOU IN THE BOAT
5. FEAR OF FOLLOWING A IMPULSIVE MAN( CRAZY MAN)
PETER WAS LOUD BUT HE WALKED ON THE WATER
HARD HEADED BUT
IMPULSIVE BUT HE
THIS NUT REBUKED JESUS BUT HE WALKED ON THE WATER
EVERY BODY WITH WILD IDEAS AINT WRONG
PETER SAW AND HEARD JESUS
6. FEAR OF REBUKE FROM THE LORD
Mt 14:31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
JESUS NEVER REBUKED THE ONES WHO STAYED IN THE BOAT WHY?
YOU GOT TO BE WILLING TO TAKE SOME FALLS AND TAKE SOME CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM TO BE ALL YOU CAN BE FOR GOD.
A PERSON WHO WILL NOT PUT THEM SELF OUT THERE WILL NEVER BE CRITICIZED.
7. FEAR FROM BEING TIRED( I WILL NOT BE TO GIVE ALL I CAN)
Joh 6:19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.
THEY HAD ROWED ABOUT 3OR 4 MILES
DON’T LET BEING TIRED KEEP YOU IN THE BOAT
