Why Christians Should Support Our Jewish Brothers” Series
Contributed by Wayne Golliday on Apr 1, 2025 (message contributor)
Summary: Church, today we’re going to talk about something close to God’s heart — the Jewish people. As Christians, we often forget that our Savior, our Scriptures, and our spiritual roots are all deeply Jewish. This isn’t just history — it’s our present calling.
Sermon Title: “Why Christians Should Support Our Jewish Brothers”
Text: Romans 11:17-18, Genesis 12:3, John 4:22, Psalm 122:6
Time: Approximately 60 minutes
Theme: Christians are spiritually connected to the Jewish people and are biblically called to bless, support, and stand with them.
Purpose: To awaken the Church to its biblical responsibility to love, support, and honor the Jewish people.
Introduction (5 minutes)
Begin with a personal question: “Have you ever honored someone who helped you long before you ever knew them?”
Tie it to the spiritual reality that Christianity is rooted in Judaism.
Explain the goal: “Today, we will explore what the Bible teaches about our Jewish brothers and why supporting them is not only right — it’s our duty.”
1. Our Faith Is Rooted in the Jewish Heritage (10 minutes)
Romans 11:17-18 (ESV) – “You... were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree.”
Illustration: Imagine being adopted into a royal family and forgetting who your new family is. Paul reminds us never to forget where we come from spiritually.
Additional Scriptures:
Romans 9:4-5 – “They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption... the promises.”
Galatians 3:29 – “If you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring.”
Application: We are not separate; we are part of the same redemptive story. To disrespect the Jewish root is to dishonor the tree we now live in.
2. God’s Promise to Bless Those Who Bless Israel Still Stands (8 minutes)
Genesis 12:3 (ESV) – “I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who curse you.”
Illustration: Share historical or modern examples where nations that honored Israel flourished.
Example: The U.S.’s consistent support of Israel and the resulting prosperity.
Additional Scriptures:
Numbers 24:9 – “Blessed are those who bless you, and cursed are those who curse you.”
Zechariah 2:8 – “He who touches you touches the apple of His eye.”
Application: Supporting Israel is not just political — it’s deeply spiritual. Blessing them invites God's blessing upon us.
3. Jesus Is Jewish — And That Matters (7 minutes)
John 4:22 (ESV) – “Salvation is from the Jews.”
Luke 2:21-22 – Jesus was circumcised, dedicated at the Temple, and raised as a Torah-observant Jew.
Illustration: Imagine someone loving your book but hating your family. You’d call that hypocrisy. We cannot claim to love Jesus and reject the people He came from.
Application: Honoring the Jewish people honors Christ’s earthly identity and mission.
4. The Church’s Role: To Provoke Israel to Jealousy Through Love (10 minutes)
Romans 11:11 (NKJV) – “Salvation has come to the Gentiles to provoke them to jealousy.”
Illustration: Picture a family reunion where the adopted children love the parents so well that the biological children are drawn back to them in awe.
Additional Scriptures:
Isaiah 49:6 – “I will make you a light to the nations.”
Romans 10:1 – “My heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved.”
Application: We provoke to jealousy not with arrogance but with humility, love, and joy in the Lord. Be the kind of believer who draws others back to God.
5. God’s Covenant with Israel Is Everlasting (10 minutes)
Romans 11:25-29 (ESV) – “The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.”
Jeremiah 31:35-37 – As long as the sun and moon remain, Israel will never cease to be a nation before God.
Illustration: Use the image of a parent who disciplines a child but never stops loving or claiming them. So it is with Israel — even in rebellion, God calls them “My people.”
Application: God hasn’t replaced Israel — He’s redeeming her. As the Church, we join in that redemptive mission, not replace it.
6. A Call to Love, Not Just Support (8 minutes)
Matthew 22:39 (ESV) – “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
1 John 4:20 – “If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar.”
Illustration: You may support Israel politically, but do you love your Jewish neighbor down the street?
Application: Support includes prayer, advocacy, education, and relationship-building. Speak against anti-Semitism in all its forms.
7. A Prayerful People: “Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem” (5 minutes)
Psalm 122:6 (ESV) – “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! May they be secure who love you!”
Isaiah 62:6-7 – “Give Him no rest until He establishes Jerusalem and makes it a praise in the earth.”
Illustration: Share a story of someone who consistently prays for Israel — and how God blesses them.
Application: Make praying for Israel and the Jewish people part of your regular spiritual discipline.
Conclusion and Call to Action (7 minutes)
Review Key Points:
We are spiritually grafted into Israel.
God's promises to bless Israel still stand.
Jesus is Jewish — and we cannot love Him while rejecting His people.
