Summary: We live in perilous times. Whom you have believed will determine how you get through them.

WHOM HAVE YOU BELIEVED?

Text: Hebrews 6:1; 2 Timothy 3: 1-5; 11:1-40

Faith is the victory that overcomes the world.

But only faith towards God will do this.

The text says to move away from dead works and have faith towards God.

We must move away from the things that will hinder us.

We must move away from the things that are sinful.

We must move away from the things that are unfruitful.

And turn our faith towards God.

Faith Gr. Pistis means a conviction of truth, or belief Gr. Pisteuo place confidence in.

Faith is the substance Gr. Hupostasis having a foundation.

Faith then is having a conviction of truth that we place confidence in.

Which is our foundation on which we stand.

So where is our faith directed towards?

As we look to the Word of God we will answer the question:

Whom Have You Believed?

I. Faith Towards Man.

A. Faith towards self. (Not enough)

1. I can handle it.

2. I don’t need anyone else.

B. Faith towards others. (Not enough)

1. We can handle it.

2. We begin to lean on others for everything.

3. Counselors, friends, psychiatrist….

C. Whom have you believed?

Psalms 118: 8 It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

Psalms 118:9 It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in Princes.

II. Faith Towards Religion.

A. Pharisees had faith toward religion.

1. We are the sons of Abraham.

Mt 3:9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have ABRAHAM to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto ABRAHAM.

2. We are the ruling class.

B. People today have faith towards religion.

1. I’m Church of God, or Pentecostal, or Baptist….

2. Faith toward a denomination isn’t enough!

C. Whom have you believed?

III. Faith Towards God. (Heb 11:6)

A. Faith towards the Alpha and Omega, creator of all things.

B. Where man and religion fail, God will not.

C. Examples found in Hebrews 11.

Pr 3:26 For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

Pr 14:26 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

Conclusion: I know whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that He is

Able to keep that which I have committed, unto Him against that day.

Do you know in whom you have believed?

Is it God? He will not fail you!

Is it man? Then you are heading for a fall!

Jer 2:37 Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.

Put you faith toward God and He will deliver you.
