Whom Are We Pleasing - Is It God Or Men? Series

Galatians 1:10

Two kinds of people always fail — those who listen to nobody and those who listen to everybody. The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Galatians warns them against being people pleasers. Again, while writing to the Church in Colossia (Colossians 1:10), he encourages them to please God alone in everything.

For a Christian, it is important to be saturated with the thought to please God at all times and in every situation and not be like the people of the world, who think about God once in a while. It is important to constantly ask ourselves as to whom we are pleasing? The Bible gives the answer that God alone must have the preeminence. Anyone or anything which includes spouse, children, parents, profession, career, servants, leaders is an outrageous sin against God. “But I’m not a people pleaser.” May be not, but if you are pleasing yourself, self-focused and selfishness has a firm hold in your life, you are still committing the grievous offense. Remember that selfishness is a deadly vice that can cause you to miss your destiny.

The following three principles when practiced with diligence will surely yield great rewards:

In Hebrews 11:5, we find that Enoch’s testimony pleased God; The same chapter also records the names of many warriors of faith who lived a life that was pleasing in God’s sight. Take note that it is impossible to please God without faith (Hebrews 11:6)

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is the perfect example, who said, “I do always those things pleasing to my Father.” (John 8:29) and Bible records two occasions where the heavens opened to testify on how the Father was well pleased about His son (Matthew 3:17) As His children, by obedience to His will (Mathew 7:21) we please Him immensely. Concerning the matters of home and family, it is a mandate that children obey their parents in everything. (Colossians 3:20)

(Romans 8:8) To belong to Christ and to please Him, we must be filled by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our guide in all matters. When we live by the Spirit, we experience freedom from our worldly desires and condemnation.

Dear beloved, living a life of faith, walking in obedience to God’s will and being led by the Holy Spirit will help us to honor Him. Such a life is the way to really live; anything else, which includes being a people pleaser or selfishness is mere existence. In the end, all that matters is to hear our Master say — well done!

Look not to the people around you,

Nor wait for their laurels of praise;

Enough that the Savior has found you

And calls you to serve all your days.
