Who Is The Holy Spirit?
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
A friend of mine I haven't talk to in a while called one night this week with a question. The question was about the role of the Holy Spirit in our life. Who is He? He began to say that he was really confused with , in his own words: "the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit." I believe basically people are taught how to perceive the Holy Spirit. I think perceive would be a good word. It means: (Become aware or conscious of (something); come to realize or understand) People are being taught some really strange things about the Holy Spirit.
Let's look at what the Bible says, that's where you get the truth...it's not my theory or anyone else's....its where you can always find out the truth and that's Gods word. What does the Bible say about the identity of the Holy Spirit? Simply put, the Bible declares the Holy Spirit is God. The Bible also says the Holy Spirit is a divine person, a being with a mine and emotions and a will. The fact is that the Holy Spirit is God is found in many scriptures. Here is one that comes to mind: Acts 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 5 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
It is very clear in these verses that lying to the Holy Spirit is lying to God. (thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.) We can also know that the Holy Spirit is God because He has the characteristics of God. Here is one scripture found in 1 Corinthians 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. What we cannot get through reading and or hearing, the Spirit of God can teach us.
There are many things we can learn by studying the Bible ..such as the history of it, learn the plan of salvation but, we cannot get spiritual truths that way. Why? Because “God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit.” There are certain things that only the Spirit of God can reveal to us. In John chapter 14 Jesus promised He wouldn't leave us comfortless John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you That's what Jesus died for so that we may accept Him to live inside us.....Holy Spirit, Spirit of truth, the Comforter, if you haven't accepted Him...do it today and He will be with you how long?....forever.
