Isaiah 22:15-19 (Amplified Bible)

22:15 Come, go to this [contemptible] steward and treasurer, to Shebna, who is over the house [but who is presumptuous enough to be building himself a tomb among those of the mighty, a tomb worthy of a king], and say to him,

22:16 What business have you here? And whom have you entombed here, that you have the right to hew out for yourself a tomb here? He hews out a sepulcher for himself on the height! He carves out a dwelling for himself in the rock!

22:17 Behold, the Lord will hurl you away violently, O you strong man; yes, He will take tight hold of you and He will surely cover you [with shame].

22:18 He will surely roll you up in a bundle [Shebna] and toss you like a ball into a large country; there you will die and there will be your splendid chariots, you disgrace to your master’s house!

22:19 And I will thrust you from your office, and from your station will you be pulled down.

Shebna or "shebna shebnah" in Hebrew means: to grow, growth. This is growth by itself, not a growth authorized by the LORD. The LORD curses unauthorized growth, remember what happened to the fig tree?

Mark 11:21 (Amplified Bible)

11:21 And Peter remembered and said to Him, Master, look! The fig tree which You doomed has withered away!

Shebna resembles or symbolizes land grabbers, field grabbers and house grabbers. This is known before as squatter, but now given a non-offending name of informal settler.

Micah 2:2-3 (Amplified Bible)

2:2 They covet fields and seize them, and houses and take them away; they oppress and crush a man and his house, a man and his inheritance.

2:3 Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, against this family I am planning a disaster from which you cannot remove your necks, nor will you be able to walk erect; for it will be an evil time.

Isaiah 5:8 (Amplified Bible)

5:8 Woe to those who join house to house [and by violently expelling the poorer occupants enclose large acreage] and join field to field until there is no place for others and you are made to dwell alone in the midst of the land!

Our growth is only from the LORD and if you don't base your growth in the LORD you're a fool.

Matthew 7:26-27 (Amplified Bible)

7:26 And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them will be like a stupid (foolish) man who built his house upon the sand.

7:27 And the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great and complete was the fall of it.

John 15:5 (Amplified Bible)

15:5 I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.

B. Future of Shebna:

Isaiah 22:17-19 (Amplified Bible)

22:17 Behold, the Lord will hurl you away violently, O you strong man; yes, He will take tight hold of you and He will surely cover you [with shame].

22:18 He will surely roll you up in a bundle [Shebna] and toss you like a ball into a large country; there you will die and there will be your splendid chariots, you disgrace to your master’s house!

22:19 And I will thrust you from your office, and from your station will you be pulled down.

1. The LORD will hurl Shebna away violently

2. The LORD will take tight hold of Shebna and surely cover him with shame

3. The LORD will surely roll Shebna in a bundle and toss them like a ball into a large country
