Summary: Satan has a plethora of names and titles that describes who he is. We will look at some of them in this series.

TEXT: Revelation 9:11

"And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon."

We have looked at Satan, the adversary or enemy of God and Christians, the devil, as a slanderer and false accuser and Lucifer, the morning star or light bearer; his name before he was cast out of heaven for rebelling against his maker. Let's look at other names and titles of Satan.

ABADDON/APOLLYON:

This is not a common or well known name of Satan. It means the angel of the bottomless pit or destroyer (Rev 9:11). Satan, the fallen angel is a destroyer. His ministry as described in John 10:10a, is to steal, kill and destroy. He is very adept at his work and succeeded in destroying the life of Judas Iscariot, one of the Apostles of Jesus Christ. The destroyer will himself be destroyed and locked away forever in the bottomless pit by God to whom all power belongs. In the bottomless pit, he will preside over other fallen angels, hades, death and all who reject Jesus Christ. You will not end in the bottomless pit in Jesus name. The destroyer and angel of the bottomless pit will not prevail over you in Jesus name.

THE TEMPTER:

Satan is the tempter. He tempts people to commit sin. He tried with Jesus but failed woefully. "Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil...And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread" (Matthew 4:1,3). No human being is above Satan's temptations and manipulations. He will certainly tempt you over and over again. Using the word of God against Satan, just like Jesus did, is one of the ways to overcome his temptations (Matt 4:1-11). He tempted Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden and succeeded. He will not succeed against you in Jesus name. God will make a way of escape for you when Satan comes with his temptations in Jesus name.

MURDERER, LIAR AND FATHER OF LIES

"Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it" (John 8:44). Jesus called Satan a murderer, liar and father of lies. There is no truth in Satan, an opposite attribute to God who cannot lie (Heb 6:8). He is a murderer because he seeks to kill and destroy believers. Satan is the father or originator of lies. He manufactures lies and distributes them through his demons to those who follow him. Habitual liars therefore have Satan as their father. If you don't want Satan to be your father, repent today. It is important to note that all liars will end up in the bottomless pit with their father, Satan (Rev 21:8).

Satan is Abaddon, the destroyer. He is the tempter. He is a murderer, liar and father of lies. The major mission of Satan is to steal, kill and destroy. There is nothing good in the devil. He is going about seeking those to join him in the bottomless pit. Don't fall for his lies. Run away from Satan. Accept Jesus today, repent and he will give you the power to live a holy life. Make heaven your goal.

PRAYER:

Father, deliver me from the trap of Satan. Lead me on the path of truth and salvation in Jesus name.

CONFESSION:

Heaven is my goal.

God bless you. Shalom.
