Text: Acts 9:5 NKJV
“And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.””
A. Saul's Searching Question
(1) Saul was passionate in persecuting the church.
(2) Jesus confronted Saul on the road to Damascus
(a) A light from heaven; a voice speaking to him
(b) Saul's question: "Who art thou , Lord?"
(c) The voice's answer : "I am Jesus..."
Body
A. He Is the Prophesied Saviour
1. The first promise of a Saviour came after the fall (Gen. 3:15)
(a) He One to bruise the serpent's head
(b) The One to redeem a sinful race.
2. The prophets added their voices
(a) The saviour to be virgin born (Isa. 7:14)
(b) The Saviour to be God in flesh (Isa. 7:14;9:6-7)
(c) The Saviour to be born in Bethlehem (Mic. 5:2)
(d) The Saviour to be preceded by John , who would prepare the way (Isa. 40:3)
3. The miraculous birth occurred in Bethlehem. (Luke 2)
(a) The Roman Empire was a part of the miracle (the taxing)
(b) Christ was born on time (Gal. 4:4-5)
B. He Is the Crucified Saviour
1. Every step Jesus took in life was toward the Cross
(a) Isaiah had prophesied His painful. Death for sinners (Isa. 53)
(b) John the Baptist called Him the Lamb of God. (John 1:36)
2. Jesus revealed his coming death to His disciples (Matt. 20:18-19)
3. Obey the Cross , He was the figure of forgiveness (Matt, 17:29-50)
(a) Even the dying thief found forgiveness (Luke 23:30:43)
(b) All who come to Him find forgiveness and eternal life (John 3:16; 6:37)
C. He Is the Risen Saviour
1. His resurrection proved His deity (John 2:19)
2. His enemies thought that they had destroyed Him at the Cross
(a) But He arose (Matt. 28:1-6)
(b) Because He arose , those who trust Him will also rise (1 Cor. 15:20)
3. Many proofs of His resurrection
(a) The empty tomb and the eyewitness
(b) The transformed disciples and the enduring church
D. He Is the Coming Saviour
1. Christ, who died and rose again, will come again
2. He must come to fulfil His promise (John 14:1-3)
3. Are you ready for His return?
