Summary: Who is abiding in you? Is it God or the prince of the world? This will determine your outcome.
WHO IS IN YOU?
Text: John 15: 1-11
This passage of scripture is one that all Christians should hide in their hearts.
How great it is to know that Jesus would make His abode in me.
And not just me, but all who are children of God.
But there’s a catch to having the I Am living in me.
Before He will, I must abide in His word.
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
The question that must be asked now is, are you abiding in His word?
The answer to that question leads us to this, if you are not abiding in His word, then Who Is In You?
There are only two answers to this and we will examine them both.
I. Does Satan Have Anything In You?
John 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
A. Jesus recognized the presence of the enemy.
B. Does the lust of the flesh control you?
Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
C. Just a little is too much.
Galatians 5:9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
II. Or Does God Dwell In You?
A. If He does there will be fruit.
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
B. Not just a little bit.
John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
C. Is there much fruit evident in your life?
1. Maybe a little pruning is in order?
John 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
2. Without the pruning the branch is taken away and burned.
III. Who Is In You Determines Life’s Outcome.
A. If it is Satan in you.
1. The ultimate outcome is death.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
2. The things you enjoy are temporary.
Hebrews 11:25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
B. If it is God who dwells in you.
1. The ultimate outcome is Heaven forever.
John 14:2-3 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
2. Your joy will be full here and now.
John 15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
3.
(Nehemiah 8:10) The joy of the Lord
(1 Peter 1:8) Joy Unspeakable
(John 10:10) Abundant Life
Conclusion:
So who is in you?
Who do you want in you?
John 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
Jesus said He and the Father would make their abode in you.
But they won’t share your heart with Satan.
Be able to say the prince of this world has nothing in me.
