This sermon explores Moses' encounter with God, encouraging us to discover our divine purpose, embrace our spiritual identity, and live authentically in accordance with God's revelation.

Introduction

Good morning, beloved family. It is a blessing to once again gather together in this sacred space, a sanctuary of solace and strength, where we can seek the face of our Heavenly Father. We are here to celebrate His love, to praise His name, and to grow in our understanding of His word.

Today, we find ourselves standing at the foot of a mountain, a mountain of mystery and majesty, where a humble shepherd named Moses had a life-changing encounter with the living God. This encounter, as recorded in the book of Exodus, chapter 3, verses 11 to 14, is a timeless testament to the transformative power of divine revelation. Let us hear the word of the Lord:

'But Moses said to God, 'Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?' And God said, 'I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.' Moses said to God, 'Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?' God said to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.'

Discovering Divine Designation

In the heart of the burning bush encounter, Moses is met with a task that seems impossible. He's asked to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, a task that would require tremendous courage, faith, and leadership. But Moses, like many of us, is filled with doubt. He questions his ability, his worthiness, and his identity. He asks God, 'Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?'

This question is one that many of us have asked ourselves at one point or another. Who am I to take on this task? Who am I to lead? Who am I to make a difference? It's a question that stems from a place of insecurity and uncertainty. But God, in His infinite wisdom and love, doesn't dismiss Moses' doubt. Instead, He reassures him with a promise, 'I will be with you.'

This promise is a powerful reminder of our divine designation. It's a reminder that we are not alone in our endeavors. God is with us, guiding us, strengthening us, and equipping us for the tasks He has set before us. We are designated by God for specific purposes and tasks. We are chosen, not by accident, but with intention. This designation is not dependent on our abilities, our qualifications, or our self-perceived worthiness. It's dependent on God's power, God's purpose, and God's promise.
