Summary: Paul mentions 8 things you have received from Christ.
Who are you?
Ephesians 1:3-14 … 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; 8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; 9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: 10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: 11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Who are you? I don’t mean what is your name. Who are you in Christ?
Paul mentions 8 things you have received from Christ. The number 8 speaks of a new beginning, a new start, a new creation. When you placed your faith in Christ as Lord and Savior, he gave you a new start, a new beginning. 2 Cor 5:17 in Christ you are a new creature, a new creation. You are born again. These 8 things were given to you with your new beginning in Christ.
Who are you? “I am blessed.” V3. You have been blessed with all/every spiritual blessing in Christ. Blessings like the presence of God, the promises of God, the power, protection, provision of God, and the pardon of God. Who are you? Say it, I am blessed.
2. I am chosen v4. Before the foundation of the world God chose you that you should be holy and blameless before him in love. Who are you? Say it proudly, I am chosen to be a holy vessel.
3. I am adopted. v5. God has only one son. Through your faith in His Son you became an adopted child of God. Who are you? Say it out loud, “I am adopted to show others the Father.”
4. I am accepted v6. It’s great to be accepted by family and friends, but the greatest acceptance is to be accepted by God. I am accepted to display the praise of the glory of his grace.
5. I am redeemed v7. Redemption is the price Christ paid to free you from sin’s bondage. Redemption was provided through his blood v7. Who are you? SHOUT IT! I AM REDEEMED!
6. I am forgiven v7. Redemption and forgiveness go hand in hand. Redemption is the price paid; forgiveness is the result. Forgiveness is the complete removal of sin in your life. Who are you?
I am forgiven by the riches of his grace!
7. I have an inheritance v11. This inheritance is eternal life.
According to Peter this inheritance is “reserved in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, it can’t change or decay.” 1 Peter 1:4-5
8. I am sealed v13. Your salvation is sealed by God the Holy Spirit. To be sealed in your salvation means that your salvation is a finished deal. Nothing needs to be added. We belong to God now. We are sealed and secure in Christ. Nothing can break this seal!
All of this speaks to the sufficiency of Christ in the life of the believer. You are complete in Christ, Col. 2:10. You did nothing to receive any of this but simply believe in Christ. It is your Father’s pleasure to give you these things v5 no one can take it away. He did all this “through Jesus Christ” v5 “the beloved” v6. “According to the riches of his grace v7. So go ahead, give your Father praise and glory for his grace; for blessing you with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
Who are you? I am blessed. I am chosen, I am adopted, I am accepted, I am redeemed, I am forgiven, I have an inheritance, I am sealed by the riches of his grace v7, to the praise of his glory v12.
