Which Way

By Rev Stanley Baker

Matthew 19: 16—22

This morning I want to talk to you for just a little while about when everything goes the other way.

In our text we see a young rich man that has come to Jesus and says;

Good Master, What good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

The first thing out of Jesus mouth was, why do you call me Good?

Then he proceeds to tell the young man that there is none good but one.

And that is none other but God.

Jesus tells the man, if thou wilt enter into life, and keep the commandments. ( what was Jesus telling him)

Jesus was telling him

Don’t murder

Don’t commit adultery

Don’t steal

Don’t bear false witness

Honor thy father & mother

And Love thy neighbor as thy self

But you also have to be perfect in your belief ( in other words don’t falter)

Go and sell what you have and follow me ( give it all up for me, because you will not need it, for I will provide for you)

What else could need, oh sure you need food but Jesus is the only food you need for your soul

The man did not like what he heard and went his own way.

This young man made Four mistakes right off the bat

(1) his first mistake was to take Jesus as a good man

He is either a good man or he is either God,

he can not or is he ever just the good man he is GOD

(2) his second mistake was about the way of eternal life,

supposing that it could be earned,

you can not earn your way into heaven you must be SAAVED

(3) his third mistake was about himself think that he had kept the Law

the Law will not get into heave you must again be SAVED by the GRACE Of Jesus Christ

(4) his fourth mistake was his most tragic, he did not do what Jesus said, he went back to what he was when Jesus said Follow Me

You can not live in the world and serve Christ at the same time you have to serve one master or the other

or in other word you must serve the Devil or Jesus Christ

Jesus told his disciples that with God all things are possible,

And that he was offered up for the world of all sinners, even for the salvation of the rich.

You can not think that your doing good will get you into heaven

But the only way to that place we call just beyond the river can only be gotten to by the way of Jesus Christ and the cross because he and only he was crucified for all the sins of the world.

Matthew 19:23

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you,

That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

You must take what God gives you and leave the world behind or suffer the way that you will go.

( in other words you can not serve the world and Jesus, don’t let your flesh get in the way or between you and Jesus Christ)

Hell is real and you are playing with it if you are not careful you will get burned

Wait a minute, if you look at Marks version of this account you will find that this young man did not only come to Jesus, but he Kneeled at his feet when he asked the question.

Mar 10:17

And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

I am here this morning top tell someone;

You cannot kneel at the cross and go back into the world as you were and think you are going to heaven but rather

you had better get your heart right and come to the cross and stay under the Grace of Christ.

Time is running out and you are still playing around?

Wake Up

God is real

Hell is real and you don’t want to go there.

Psalms_9:17

The wicked shall be turned into hell,

Matthew_5:22

Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, it into cast into hell.

if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it into hell

Don’t do what the rich man did

Don’t make the same mistakes he made

Do not stay in the world, for it is not worth it.

Fear what will happen to you,& don’t play around with your soul.

Mat_10:28

And fear not them, which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him, which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
