Friends, where was Jesus till He was 30 years of age? We read in the Bible about His birth, His dedication at the temple and then as a young boy of 12 years old. What happened to Him over the next 18 years? Was He doing mighty miracles? Was He preaching mighty sermons? Was He saving souls? What was He doing? Where was He? HE WAS AT HOME.

Luke 2:51-52 ‘Then He went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But His mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.’

Jesus spent 18 years at home. Joseph, we know was a carpenter. So most likely Jesus too would have continued with his earthly father’s trade. Why was Jesus at home? Because it was the will of God the Father for that season. God the Father had willed that His only begotten Son wait till He was 30 to commence His earthly ministry. Once He commenced His ministry at the age of 30, over the next three and half years the ministry, the death and resurrection of Jesus impacted human history from the beginning of time right to its end as spoken in the Book of Revelation. Jesus did the Father’s will at every point and every season of His life. When it was required to go to the temple and speak with the religious leaders about the Law when He was 12 years old, Jesus did it. When it was required of Him to stay at home and lead a quiet life till He was 30, Jesus did that also. Jesus did the Father’s will always.

What does scripture mean when it says, ‘God’s will’?

It means what is on the Father’s heart for us. What He wants us to do. This includes for now/today as well as the future. Most of us are concerned only about the future. We want to know what will happen in our future. Hence the reason why we are so interested in prophecy.

Whenever we speak of God’s will, we only consider the big things in our life. When it is about a job or migrating overseas or getting married or doing ministry, we always want to know God’s will. Have you ever stopped to ask God what His will for you for today is? Today His will for you might be to just get to a quiet place and read His Word. Are you willing to do that or are you still waiting to know the big plan for the future? Jesus said ‘Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own (Matthew 6:34).’

How can we know the Father’s heart daily?

To know the Father’s heart, we must have daily fellowship with Holy Spirit. Only Holy Spirit knows the Father’s heart. 1 Corinthians 2:11 says ‘no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.’ How do we fellowship with Holy Spirit? Through the study of the Word, through prayer, praise and worship daily. As we fellowship with Him daily, He will speak to us through the Word and speak directly to our heart and tell us what we should do each day. Be it our daily life, our work/business, our studies, our ministry – every day He will speak to us and He will lead us in the way that the Father has ordained for us. Daily Fellowship will lead us to know the Father’s heart for each day. We see in the life of Jesus how He fellowshiped with the Father through prayer. Despite all the ministering He did, He always kept time to go speak to God the Father. Hence His ministry had a great impact for eternity.

John 4:34 ‘My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work.

Seasons of Silence

Friends, if you are going through a season of silence like Jesus went till He was 30 years of age; REJOICE!. You are in good company. If the Son of God had to go through different seasons in life, we too will have to go through different seasons in our lives too.

Let God lead your life. Do not live your life to gain the approval of other humans. Live your life to gain the approval of Jesus only. Only His judgement matters because His judgement is righteous. He has already given you His seal of approval by giving you, His Spirit. When you fellowship with Holy Spirit daily, your heart will hear the Father’s heart.

Remember this always. The seasons of silence prepare us for the seasons of exaltation. So be faithful and patient in the silent times and be humble and simple when the exaltation comes. Know the Father’s heart and lead your lives. Such a life is truly a life of freedom, peace, joy, hope and love. We you do God’s will daily, your life will be blessed daily.
