Summary: Sermon based on the question asked by Elisha the prophet after Elijah was received up into heaven.

Where Is The Lord God ?

2 Kings 2:1-15

The name "Elijah" means "Yah is God"

Elijah was one of the greatest prophets of all times. He was a man who possessed the power of God, preached the word of God without compromise, and a mighty man of prayer !

Tonight I want us to look at a question that his sucessor Elisha asks.

V1 tells us that God was about to take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind. Now Elisha knew what was about to happen, and he was determined that he was going to be there when it happened. I don’t know what Elisha was thinking. Was he just curious ? Wanted to make sure if something exciting happened, that he was there to see it ? Or perhaps he thought that if he stayed close enough that the Lord might take him out as well ?

Now I don’t know if Elijah got aggravated with Elisha or not.....but finally in V9-10 Elijah says........"Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so."

Now that’s quite a proposition isn’t it ? Ask what I shall do for thee.......but what’s even more amazing is the petition of Elisha.

What Elisha wants is a extra helping of what Elijah had ! And what Elijah had was a intimate relationship with the Lord God !

In our prayers to God, in our requests, we ask far less than what God wants to give to us ! From a spiritual perspective, we’re far too willing to settle for status quo, to settle for mediocrity.....but Elisha wasn’t willing to settle for just what someone else, he wasn’t content with just a single helping........he wanted a double helping of God !

How bout you.......you willing to settle for less than God wants you to have ? Don’t be content with anything less than what God wants you to have !

Notice the question that Elisha asks after Elijah is taken up, and as he picks up the coat of Elijah

Where is the LORD God of Elijah ?

Joke: Little Johnny

Joke: God’s missing

Joke: Guy being baptized......you found Jesus yet.

That’s a question on a lot of folks mine whether we verbalize it or not.

In a world of some much pain, and conflict........where is the Lord God ?

In a world with some much war, killing, violence, and bloodshed ?

Where is God when it hurts ? Where is God when the marriage goes bad ? Where is God when we lose our job ? Where is God when get sick ? Where is God when we lose a loved one ?

Tonight I want to share with you where the Lord God is ?
