WHERE ARE YOUR SHOES
MATTHEW 7: 1-2; 13-15
1 "Judge not, lest you be judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with what measure you measure, it will be measured back to you ask Him! 13 "Enter in through the narrow gate; because wide is the gate, and broad is the way which leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in through it. 14 How narrow the gate, and confined the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it! 15 "But beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits.
PUT YOUR SHOES ON!!! WHERE ARE YOUR SHOES!!! YOU CANNOT WALK BAREFEET, YOY WILL HURT YOURSELF!!!
Do you remember how to get home or are you so completely lost that you cannot walk your way home? Jesus spoke a lot of parables in the Bible, the lost coin, the lost sheep, the lost son, that the lost needs our attention more than others.
The roads people have walked, the choices they have made has consequences, sometimes it is a challenge, yet remember Jesus died for all, the strong, the weak, the sick, the lost…
Well we cannot walk into an answer, it IS A BE STILL MOMENT AND LISTEN TO GOD, it only becomes clear when you look into your heart and find out that your plan is not God’s plan, His purpose will prevail.
So now you have to get up, clothes no problem but the shoes… (no wonder ladies have so many pairs of shoes, you know Dominique has nine pairs of boots, now to me they all look the same but she says they are all different)
You long for those days of childhood, barefoot, running around. Why do people take interest in your shoes, why are they so interested in your feet and what you have on.
Feet has been used in the English language quite often so one has to be careful what you say about them, could you just imagine someone coming to you and saying that your feet are disgusting…
My favorite saying is “ oops I have really put my foot in it now, which really means to say something wrong or to give a secret away, (now for those of you who know me, you know I say the wrong thing often), if either the bride or groom runs late, people have a habit to say, she has cold feet, which really means, to become a coward, to turn and run. Most mothers nowadays must put their foot down, which means to be firm, strong. Do not worry the guy who leaves the restaurant last has to foot the bill, which means is to pay, we step on toes, which means to raise a sensitive issue( you know your child comes home with the fist love syndrome)
Many of us walk around like we are walking on eggshells, even jump at our own shadow, or we hot foot it out of there as soon as the sparks fly.
So what shoes are we wearing?
How many of us say we want them the younger generation to follow in our footsteps when we do not even know what shoes we are wearing?
Now we have all types of different shoes, but do we wear the correct ones?
For starters we need to understand that shoes are likened to the Gospel, the Gospel literally means the good news, yet people are left to put their own interpretations on it.
First of all, we have the dress shoes, you know the smart ones, the beautiful shiny ones. Now I am not just speaking to the ladies, we all know that men like their shoes as well, these shoes are for special occasions, maybe a Sunday if you are lucky, dress to impress. This is the Gospel that declares people are doing God a favor by showing up in their Sunday best, I do not mean any wrong by this so long as these people are here for the right reason, to worship God not to show off.
Then we have the popular bedroom slippers, so comfortable and feel so warm, so good, yet when you walk on the wet grass, they get wet so do your feet, many people like to wear these to shops, even I have fallen guilty of this one. This Gospel is preached by those who do not want to offend, they avoid speaking about sin and say all is ok, carry on.
I suppose we can all say that we have a favorite pair of flipflops, quick to put on in a hurry, they offer no protection, often slip off your feet, cause you to slip and slide. This is a Gospel where people are not certain of what they believe in, too lazy to find out where they would belong, they are heading for a fall.
