Sermons

Summary: A sermon on the striving to stand in what God has called us to do, being reminded of how He shows how to do so without falling.

“Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall.”

Why did Paul write these words?

Paul knew that this was an issue that Christians across the board would experience.

So let’s look at the message that Paul has for this church.

I. Why Do I Want to Stand?

Paul’s purpose here was not to discourage standing, it was to caution against falling.

As we look at Paul’s continued messages, we see an emphasis on standing for Christ, running for Christ, even boxing for Christ.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 - Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

- Necessary in Life

It is important in life to stand up for what you believe in, whether it be a political belief, a moral conviction, or what your personal passions are.

But, you can’t truly live without Standing up in Faith.

- Christ called us to Stand

Galatians 5:1 - It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

II. Watch for the Warnings!

The action in this short verse happens so quick that you may miss it if you aren’t careful – “TAKE HEED” in other words, PAY ATTENTION, WATCH OUT

- Signs in all forms

God gives us warning signs to help us out.

- Signs are there for a Purpose

(What are we trying to accomplish this week)

III. Don’t Fall

Romans 11:20 - Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear;

- Be ready to move

Part of listening to those warnings, are responding to them.

- Stand back up
