2023.06.11.Sermon. Whenever you come together. Come to share and receive

William Akehurst, HSWC

BIG IDEA: Whenever you come together, you have something to share. Whether a song, a testimony, a word of understanding or a message of praise, Let these things be shared to increase unity in faith. When we come together, it is for the building of the church, you and me, the believer, to increase our faith together. Come to share, and with expectation, to receive of the LORD.

SCRIPTURES: 1 Corinthians 14:26 Ephesians 4:12-13 Ephesians 5:15-21 Colossians 3:12-17 Psalms 95:1-2 Psalms 96:1-13 Psalms 40:3 2 Samuel 22:50; Psalms 18:49 Psalms 42:8 Psalms 77:6 Psalms 105:1-3

Hebrews 10:23-25

Hebrews 10:23-25

23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

WHENEVER YOU COME TOGETHER, COME TO SHARE

1 Corinthians 14:26

26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.

So, what is the conclusion, brothers?

When you assemble together,

each one of you has a psalm [to sing],

or a lesson [to teach],

or a [supernatural] revelation [to give],

or a language [to speak supernaturally],

or an interpretation [of that language].

Everything that is done should be for the building up [of the church].

EQUIPPING, EDIFYING, IN UNITY OF FAITH AND KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS

Ephesians 4:12-13

12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

WALK IN WISDOM

Ephesians 5:15-21

15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,

16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

UNDERSTAND THE WILL OF GOD

17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT

18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,

SPEAK AND SING SONGS OF PRAISE TO GOD

19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,

20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of God.

CHANGED. THE CHARACTER OF THE NEW MAN IN CHRIST

Colossians 3:12-17

12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;

FORGIVE

13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

PUT ON LOVE

14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

LET PEACE RULE YOUR HEART

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

LET THE WORD OF CHRIST DWELL IN YOU

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

DO EVERYTHING IN THE NAME OF JESUS

17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

LET’S SING AND SHOUT TO THE LORD JOYFULLY

Psalms 95:1-2

1 Oh come, let us sing to the LORD!

Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.

2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving;

Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.

RESPONSIVE READING (LEADER-odd, CONGREGATION-even)

SING TO THE LORD A NEW SONG!

Psalms 96

1 Oh, sing to the LORD a new song!

Sing to the LORD, all the earth.

2 Sing to the LORD, bless His name;

Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

3 Declare His glory among the nations,

His wonders among all peoples.

4 For the LORD is great and greatly to be praised;

He is to be feared above all gods.

5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,

But the LORD made the heavens.

6 Honor and majesty are before Him;

Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.
