WHEN TECHNIQUE ECLIPSES RELATIONSHIP-Part I—Revelation 2:1-7

OR Firstless Love

A man who spends all his time at work—Neglecting his family in order to do it—Forgetting that his initial drive for the work is to meet his family’s need.

Jesus reprimanded the Ephesian church because their first love for Jesus had taken second place & lapsed into technique/maintenance.

The local church must prevent her realtionship with Jesus from lapsing into a technique.

What occurs when technique overshadows relationship?

10 liabilities of a relationship that is eclipsed by technique.

1—When technique eclipses relationship

Our ANGEL IS LIABLE(:1)

—Explanation/Argumentation:(:1)Angel/Head/Point man

“To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: ...”

“The Angel”—

Mal. 2:7; 3:1—“For the lips of a priest should preserve knowledge, & men should seek instruction from his mouth; for he is the messenger[angel-Kalm] of the LORD of hosts.”....“Behold, I am going to send My messenger[angel-Kalm], & he will clear the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; & the messenger[angel-Kalm] of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming,” says the LORD of hosts.” both John the Baptist & Jesus are rendeered by the typical word for angel.

This says something about responsibility of leadership...

Heb. 13:17—“Obey your leaders, & submit to them; for they keep watch over your souls, as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy & not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you.”

Jas. 3:1—“Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we shall incur a stricter judgment.”

“...The One who holds the seven stars in His right hand, the One who walks among the seven golden lampstands, says this:”

Liable to Jesus.

Pastor is Undershepherd to Jesus.

2Cor. 11:2—“For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin.”

Heb. 13:20; 1Pet. 5:4—Great & Chief Shepherd—Implies Undershepherds & responsibility.

1Cor. 15:58—“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.”
