When People Meet Jesus

Summary: Have you ever been caught doing something? What Jesus did…What Jesus wants to do for us…Making it personal…
What Jesus did…
John 8:1 Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives, 2 but early the next morning he was back again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and taught them. 3 As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and Pharisees brought a woman they had caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd. 4 "Teacher," they said to Jesus, "this woman was caught in the very act of adultery. (Where is the man, did he sneak out the back door when he heard the camel cavalry arrive. These Pharisees are more like the Gestapo then religious leaders) 5 The Law of Moses says to stone her “What do you say?” (To stone her is referring to rocks not drugs/Stoning was like a family event.) (A fight on the playground!) 6 They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, (We got Him, if he says “No” then he violates Mosaic Law, if he says “Yes” then they can challenge his teachings because he is saying that he is under the Law.) but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. (Don’t know what he wrote… “Jesus was here, have a nice day.”) 7 They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “ All right, stone her. But let those who have never sinned throw the first stones!” (Pharisees are disappointed, “didn’t see that one coming.”) 8 Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust. (Pointed out each of their sins, didn’t want to make eye contact) 9 When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. 10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to her, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” 11 “No, Lord, she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
What Jesus wants to do for us…
1. He wants to replace your GUILT with His Grace.
Sin is no longer your master, for you are no longer subject to the law, which enslaves you to sin. In Instead, you are free by God’s grace. Romans 6:14
2. He wants to replace our SHAME with Salvation.
His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ, and this gave him great pleasure. Ephesians 1:5
And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s judgment. For since we were restored to friendship with God by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be delivered from eternal punishment by his life. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God—all because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done for us in making us friends of God. Romans 5:9-11
3. Making it personal…
Pursue Jesus
Chase after Him
Don’t settle for the status Quo
Wrestle with God like Jacob “I won’t let you go God until you bless me”
Be a Diver NOT a Snorkeler
People in this Room
Investigators or Seekers(Ask Questions)
Stumbler(You straddling the fence)
Climbers(Growing, BUT Drop your Rocks)
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1
Final thought: God longs for you to relate to Him as SAVIOR & NOT JUDGE.
