Remind the church of God's unending love, His promise to always be with us, and to encourage us to face new challenges with courage and trust in His strength and support.
Good morning, brothers and sisters. I'm so grateful to have you all here with me today. We find ourselves in a time of change, a time of uncertainty, and a time of challenge. It's during such times that we need to remember the promise of God's strength and support. He never leaves us; He never forsakes us.
In the words of Lailah Gifty Akita, "Only in the presence of God shall we find power to make progress." He has a plan for each of us, and even when we're faced with new challenges, He’s there with us, strengthening us.
The promise of God's strength and support is particularly relevant in the first chapter of the Book of Joshua. This promise is not just a comforting thought; it is a divine assurance that is meant to instill confidence and courage in the hearts of believers. The Lord's promise to Joshua was not just about physical territory; it was a promise of His constant presence, His unwavering support, and His limitless strength.
Leading the Israelites into the Promised Land: Joshua could have been overwhelmed by fear and doubt. However, the Lord reassured him, "As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you." This promise was not just for Joshua; it is for all of us. God's strength and support are not dependent on our abilities or our circumstances. They are based on His unchanging character and His unfailing love for us.
Not like human strength: It does not wane with age or diminish with use. It is not limited by physical constraints or depleted by exertion. God's strength is limitless, eternal, and always available to us. It is a strength that can carry us through the most challenging circumstances, lift us above our fears, and empower us to overcome our weaknesses.
Unlike any human support: It is not conditional or fickle. It does not depend on our performance or our worthiness. God's support is constant, unwavering, and unconditional. It is a support that can sustain us when we are weary, uphold us when we are weak, and encourage us when we are discouraged.
An active invitation: It invites us to lean on God, to rely on His strength, and to trust in His support. It invites us to step out in faith, to face our fears, and to embrace our challenges. It invites us to live boldly, to live courageously, and to live victoriously.
For His glory: When we lean on His strength and rely on His support, we are acknowledging our dependence on Him. We are recognizing His sovereignty and His sufficiency. We are glorifying Him by demonstrating our faith in His promises.
It’s for eternity: It is a promise that transcends our earthly existence and extends into our eternal destiny. It is a promise that assures us of His presence, His power, and His provision, not just in this life, but in the life to come.
