Summary: This message appeals to the seeker to search their heart and realize that we must have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
When Good Isn’t Good Enough
Text: Isaiah 64:6
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Introduction:
Almost Doesn’t Count!!!
I. Man Thinks Himself Righteous
Man sees only what he wants to see
He is blinded to his true condition
Only the Word of God can reveal Man’s true state
Man declares himself GOOD, but the Bible declares that “there is none good but God.”
Sometimes Good just isn’t good enough
II. What Does The Bible Say About Us
Isaiah 6:5 “Wow is me! For I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Hosts.”
David writes in Psalms 51:5 “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.”
Our text reads “We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.”
Our true nature is sinful, but God can create us anew!!
III. GRACE: God’s Righteousness At Christ’s Expense
The work of grace brings righteousness.
Salvation is the work of grace.
Man desires righteousness.
Acts 2:37 “Heard this...pricked...what shall we do?”
There is a way that seems right unto man, but the end...
Acts 2:38
Conclusion:
I Corinthians 6:9-11 – A Blessed Hope
Know ye not that the unrighteousness shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind.
Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
