When God Is Not Logical

Isaiah 55:8-12 Randall Road Baptist

July 23, 2000 Sunday Morning

Monte T. Brown

Introduction:

Each of us has or will ask God, why? Why is this thing happening in my life? It does not necessarily mean that we have no faith in God, it just shows our human frailty and perhaps our desire to know and understand Him. We live in what I call the "Star Trek" generation. We want everything to be logical. We want to put God in a logical forum and that is just not so. There is nothing logical about the reason God would allow someone like Hitler to even be born, much less come into power and kill over 6 million of his beloved people. There is nothing logical when a servant of God who is winning souls and serving him on a foreign field suddenly dies of cancer or in a car wreck. There is no logic, when someone we love who is so young is suffering and we do not understand the why!

So, what do we do, When God Is Not Logical?

We must understand,

I. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.

Isaiah 55:8-9

[8]For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. [9] For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

A. His plan was in place before the foundation of this world.

Job 38:6

Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

B. His plan is foolishness to the World.

1 Corinthians 1:18

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

C. His plan is greater than our wisdom.

1 Corinthians 3:19

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

We must understand,

II. His ways are not our ways.

Isaiah 55:8-9

[8]For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. [9] For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

A. His way is not by sight but by faith.

Hebrews 11:6

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

B. We can only be happy when we learn to trust his way.

Proverbs 16:20

He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and who so trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.

C. His way is a hard way.

Luke 9:33

And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.

We must understand,

III. He knows the Beginning from the End.

Isaiah 55:10

For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:

Note: God asks an interesting question here, which know all about one drop of water and what it produces? No one but God! If He knows what one-drop of water produces, surely He knows what is happening in our lives.

A. He does know the beginning from the end.

Isaiah 46:10

Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

B. He IS the beginning and the end.

Revelation 22:13

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

We must understand,

IV. His will, will be accomplished.

Isaiah 55:11

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Note: Remember, HE IS GOD!

A. His will, will be done in History.

B. His will, will be done in His Church.

C. His will, will be done in our lives.

1. He can use us. or

2. He can remove us.

We must understand,

V. His way is Good.

Isaiah 55:12

For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
