What Star Are You Chasing, Anway?
Contributed by Craig Benner on Dec 11, 2011 (message contributor)
Summary: The star that some should be following is not always the Star that leads wise men to the King of kings. Take a good long look at what you are following.
Starstruck, Stargazing, or Stardom?
What star are you chasing?
The Star in the East speaks of: 1.)God's Glory, 2.)His Guidance, and 3.)God's Gift
Matthew 2:1,2,7-10
2 Peter 1:19
19 ¶ We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: (KJV)
19 Tenemos además la palabra profética más segura, a la cual hacéis bien de estar atentos como a una lámpara que alumbra en lugar oscuro hasta que el día esclarezca, y el lucero de la mañana salga en vuestros corazones; (RVG04)
Rev. 22:16
16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. (KJV)
16 Yo Jesús he enviado mi ángel para daros testimonio de estas cosas en las iglesias. Yo soy la raíz y el linaje de David, y la estrella resplandeciente de la mañana. (RVG04)
Prophecies concerning the Star-----Nu. 24:17 & Isa. 60:3
I. Seeing the Star
Only a few are recorded to have seen the Star. Surely many others noticed the brighter than usual star in the sky.
-Some did not notice it because they were too caught up in their earthly pursuits.
-Some never look up becuase they are walking in defeat and can only see the feet.
-Some see the star as it stands out, but are completely ignorant of its significance.
-Others see the star as one of many others and become interested in another star.
Of those who saw the star, a few became aware of its importance in a divine inspiration. Others were made aware of the star by someone else who was enamored by its presence and movement.
Are you looking up in hope and awe at the thought of seeing and following the Star?
Are you telling others about the Star as you continue your daily journeying.
II. Following other Stars
Does someone else or something else hold your attention in such a way that your path is following them? More than likely, their path is not the same path as that of the Star of Bethlehem. It is no wonder that so many have no clue about the King of Kings.
Other stars who steal attention:
Sports Athletes
Politicians
Movie Stars
Worldly Acquaintences
That young man or young lady who may not be God's will for your life.
A passtime or hobby that is not conducive to godliness.
III. Pursuing your own Stardom
Herod is not the only one who ever lived with this problem. Too many believe that the world revolves around them and they want to Number #1 amongst others as well.
Instead of joy, they are ate up with jelousy and become bitter. To them, the Star is a source of irritation and competion.
False and feigned worship is in the heart of Herod and his like.
IV. Attitudes Concerning the Star
A. The Magi wanted to find and worship the Messiah.
B. Herod wanted to find and kill the would be king.
C. Jerusalem was doubtful and skeptical and would not even bother with travelling some five miles to check out the situation.
V. Catch that Star on Its Return
Jesus is that Star Divine. He has promised to come back to earth again.
Lk. 21:11,25
11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. (KJV)
11 Y habrá grandes terremotos en varios lugares, y hambres y pestilencias; y habrá espantos y grandes señales del cielo. (RVG04)
25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; (KJV)
25 Entonces habrá señales en el sol, en la luna y en las estrellas; y en la tierra, angustia de naciones en confusión; bramando el mar y las olas; (RVG04)
One can only ignore the Star so long. Eventually, you will have to recognize that it is truly wise to follow the STAR.
