Summary: What sin will do to the life of a christian

SERMON: WHAT SIN WILL DO

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 12:1-2 / John 3:16-18

Christians let sin corrupt them. Christians once stood tall, stood for the Lord and wouldn?t let nothing bring them down and over a period of time they start to let sin get in their life and start corrupting them. Sin is like an old wretched disease. It will corrupt your Christianity, they way you walk with the Lord and everything that you do. Christians try to live a Christian life on Sunday but soon as they get home where that old television set is or they get out in the world where their work is....they turn God off. That?s the problem with Christians today. They?ve stopped being Christians to a lost and dying world. They just confine their Christianity to the church house.

1) Sin will corrupt a Christian. Matthew 7:17

?Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.?

A. Sin corrupts communications 1 Cor. 15:33

?Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.?

B. Sin corrupts the Word 2 Cor. 2:17

?For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.?

C. Sin corrupts earthly riches James 5:1

?Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.?

2) Sin will control Christians. Romans 6:14

?For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.?

A. Sin will control your prayer life 1 Samuel 12:23

?Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way.?

B. Sin will control your study of the Word 2 Tim. 2:15

?Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth.?

If we let sin get into our life it will start controlling the way that we walk, the way we talk. It will control our function and our motion and our body. We cannot worship or serve God freely.

3) Sin will change Christians life Hosea 13:2

?And now they sin more and more and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.?

A. Sin will change where you go 1 Thess. 5:22

?Abstain from ALL appearance of evil.?

B. Sin will change the way you look at things Genesis 6:5

?And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and

that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.?

Sin will change people?s lives. Sin does not do any Christian any good. It changes them not for the better but for the worse. When we let sin in and let it corrupt and control us then all of a sudden sin will start to change us.

4) Sin will conform you Romans 12:2

?And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.?

A. Sin will conform where you go 1 Thess. 5:22

?Abstain from ALL appearance of evil.?

God?s perfect and acceptable will IS NOT for us to look like this world. But sin conforms Christians back to their old life.

5) Sin will finally consume Christians 2 Peter 2:14 ?Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin.?

When sin gets in our life we can tell because the things that used to be a joy for us to do for the Lord will become a burden. We?ll start feeling like we?re having to do it for Christ rather than wanting to do it for Christ. We?ll feel like we?re praying only because we have to pray and not because we want to pray. When people start letting sin in, their prayer life starts going down hill, church attendance starts dropping off.
