Psalms 137:1-3

1. Living in the past. Vs 1

Harry Truman, “Men who live in the past remind me of a small wooden

toy bird called the ‘Floogie Bird.’ Around the Floogie Bird’s neck is a label

reading, ‘I fly backwards, I don’t care where I’m going. I just want to

see where I’ve been.’”

Isa 43:18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the

things of old.

Luke 9:62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to

the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Lam 3:22 It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed,

because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every

morning: great is thy faithfulness.

2. Not living in the present. Vs 2

"Wipe out the past, trust the future, and live in a glorious now."

Eph 2:1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins

Prov 21:16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding

shall remain in the congregation of the dead.

Ps 118:24 This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will

rejoice and be glad in it.

Eph 5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise

from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of

your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having

forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting

of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us,

and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

"Life is lived in the present. Yesterday has gone, tomorrow is yet to

be. Today is the miracle."

3. Not Living for the future vs 4 by remembering the God we serve.

2 Peter 1: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the

knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 3 According as

his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain

unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him

that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are

given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that

by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature,

having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised

before the world began;

Ps 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give

grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them

that walk uprightly. 12 O LORD of hosts, blessed is the

man that trusteth in thee.

Ps 30: 4 Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at

the remembrance of his holiness. 5 For his anger endureth

but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may

endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now

commandeth all men every where to repent:
