What Kind Of Christian Are You? Dws#1 Series
Contributed by John Butler on Nov 28, 2017 (message contributor)
Summary: We go back to the greek and learn more about the carnal Christians of Paul’s day.
understanding.
Before they had been babies in Christ like
some of us today,
But now they were fleshly Christians.
They are now sarkikos,
They were doing what the flesh would do.
There was envying, strife, and divisions
arising in the Church.
And I truly believe that it’s because they
had delayed their growing up process.
They delayed the sanctification process
and therefore they never received the Spirit.
And how many know without the spirit to
lead you and guide you,
You’re cruising for a bruising.
You can’t fight off the devil because you’re
unable to engage in spiritual combat. Amen?
We can’t just sweep the house clean. Amen?
We have to fill it with the Holy Ghost or
else that unclean spirit will come back
with seven others worst than him,
and the last state of that man is worse
than the first. Amen?
I said last week that the Holy Ghost is
God’s housekeeper.
He cleans us up so we that we can be used,
But if we don’t have the spirit we can’t
conquer the flesh or sarx.
And if we let the flesh take control we can
go from fleshy, to fleshly, and ultimately to backslidden.
How many know that Paul was correcting these Christians,
so that they might straighten up their act
before things got worse?
He was saying get a hold of yourself
before things get worse.
And how many know that things could
have gotten worse?
As we look at verse 4 we see that the devil
wasn’t even the one causing division in the church. Amen?
It was the Church members.
It was the Christians!
A lot of times we want to go blaming
everything on the devil,
Every time something goes wrong we start
point the finger at the devil.
But how many know that sometimes it’s
not his fault.
Sometimes it’s you.
It’s your flesh or your sarx rearing it’s
ugly head. Amen?
1Co 3:4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
See, the church at Corinth were caught up
in the flesh to the Point that they were
arguing over who was a better Christian.
The divisions and strifes weren’t coming
from the devil they were caused by the flesh.
It was the flesh that made them say that
one was better than the other because they
had been baptized by Paul.
Or one was a better Christian because they
had been baptized by Apollos.
See Paul said are you not carnal?
Looking at the Greek we see that that word
is anthropos in the Textus Criticus or
sarkikos in the Textus Receptus.
Either way it’s right.
One means man and one means to have
the characteristics of a man.
See their fleshliness, Their manliness
caused envy and strife.
And there was division in the Church
because in their carnality they
had put there allegiance to Paul or
Appolos before their allegiance to God.
They were just like men taking off after
what they could see Having no desire for
spiritual or unseen things.
In the same way today too many
Christians put their trust in
men or denominations,
They would rather be disobedient to God
than go against their Denomination or
their Pastors teaching.
Well, let me ask you something.
Who died for you Jesus or your Pastor?
It’s good to be comitted to something or someone,
