God should be the foundation of our families, and without His guidance and blessing, our efforts to build and protect our families are in vain.

Introduction

Good morning, Church family! Today we're going to delve into a topic that hits home for all of us, no matter what stage of life we're in: family. Whether you're single, married, a parent, a grandparent, or a child, this message is for you. We're going to talk about the foundation of a healthy family, the blessing of God on a family, and the necessity of work within a family.

Opening Scripture Reading – Our guide for today's message will be Psalm 127:1. Let me read it for you: "Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain."

This is a powerful reminder, folks. Our families and homes aren't just physical structures or social units. They're spiritual entities that need God's touch, God's guidance, and God's blessing. Without Him, our efforts are in vain. As the respected Christian author, Max Lucado, so beautifully put it, "A family is a place where principles are hammered and honed on the anvil of everyday living."

Opening Prayer – Let's bow our heads together in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of family. We ask that you guide our hearts and minds as we explore your Word today. Help us to understand your design for our families and give us wisdom to apply it in our daily lives. May we learn to rely on you as the foundation of our homes, the blessing on our families, and the energy for our work. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

The Foundation of a Healthy Family

The foundation of a healthy family is God. This is not just a metaphorical concept, but a practical, everyday reality. When we say God is the foundation of our family, we mean that He is the basis, the bedrock, the starting point from which everything else in our family life flows. He is the one who sets the standards, provides the resources, and guides the direction of our family.

Illustration – Think of a house. The foundation is not the most visible part of the house, but it is the most crucial. If the foundation is weak or faulty, the entire house is in danger. Similarly, if God is not the foundation of our family, our family is in danger. We may have a beautiful house, nice cars, good jobs, and well-behaved children, but if God is not the foundation of our family, it's all in vain. We are building on sand, not on rock.

But how do we make God the foundation of our family? It starts with our personal relationship with Him. We cannot lead our family to God if we are not walking with Him ourselves. We need to have a personal, vibrant, growing relationship with God. We need to spend time with Him in prayer and Bible study. We need to seek His will in all areas of our life. We need to obey His commands and follow His guidance.

Then, we need to bring God into our family life. We need to teach our children about God. We need to read the Bible with them, pray with them, and take them to church. We need to model a godly life for them. We need to show them what it means to love God and love others. We need to demonstrate the fruits of the Spirit in our daily life - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

We also need to make God the center of our marriage. We need to love our spouse as Christ loved the church. We need to serve, forgive, and honor each other. We need to pray together and seek God's will together. We need to build our marriage on the principles of God's Word, not on the shifting sands of human wisdom or cultural trends.

Finally, we need to trust God with our family. We need to trust Him to provide for our needs, protect us from harm, and guide us in the right direction. We need to trust Him with our children's future, our marriage's health, and our family's mission. We need to trust Him in times of joy and in times of sorrow, in times of plenty and in times of need, in times of certainty and in times of doubt.

Pastor – Share a personal story about how making God the foundation of your family has impacted your life. This will help us understand this concept better and apply it in our own families.
