Summary: When Jesus was given to us by His Father, His purpose was to fulfill the scriptures and along that purpose we were the reason why He had to abondon heaven into this filthy world

___our actions reflect to the world the reality of Christ

¦the secret to an effective christian life is found in living in His strength not in our own....in living under His control and not under self rule.

___six things from our text

I. Be humble

___greek verb 'humble' here is in the passive voice....translated 'be humbled'

___in this case it is the hand of God that is humbling us

___(Rom 8:28)

II. Be dependent

___casting all your care upon Him because He cares for you

___(Psalm 55:22)

___dependence causes us to recognize and rely upon His strength

III. Be alert (V.8)

___'sober and vigilent'....mentally calm down and alert both at the same time.

___satan seeks to.destroy us....how does he do.it

A. Temptation

___he entices us to act contrary to God's plan and displease Him.

___if satan cannot have you for eternity he wants to render you ineffective in the present.

___( 1 Johm 2:15-17)

B. Deception

___he causes us to believe things about God and ourselves that are not true

C. Discouragement

___the devil has a way of making us to.question whether or not living for Christ is worth it.

___(Psalm 73:2-3)

___the devil loves to get us to.take our focus off of Christ and to.put our focus on ourselves.

IV. Be tenacious (V.9)

___when we have humbled ourselves and found our strength in God when.we have learned the secret of dependence and when we remain on our guard against the devil we stand our ground

___there is a direct relationship between a strong faith and the ability to live an overcoming life.

___whenever you stand firm in faith God will.come through for you

V. Be prepared (V.10)

___be prepared for the persecution that will come

___(2 Tim 3:12)

___(in July of the year 64 Nero set a fire in Rome that devastated the city  needing a scapegoat he placed the blame on christians. The result was that Christians were beaten. Tortured. And many were killed. Some.were thrown into the arena where they were torn apart by wild beasts . Others were boiled in oil. Or encased in wax and burned at the stake like candles until in 313 the Roman emperor constatine issued the edict of Mila. Declaring religious freedom for all faiths including christians)

¦ Christianity has been built and was carried through the generation on the blood of men not on the wealth men.

¦ the fruit of the gospel in the apostles lives was beatings and they left rejoicing.....they would get arrested....apear in court and they would be beaten up so bad and be told not to speak about Jesus and this is whaf they said ....." we will not stop talking about what we've heard and what we have seen"

VI. Be assured (V.10)

___4 things He will do

A. Perfect us

___to bring us to wholeness nothinh lacking complete us in every way

B. Confirm us

___to make us firm rather than being uncertain and weak

C. Strengthen us

___He will us the difficulties to make us stronger to enable us to face anything He allows to come our way

D. Establish us
