Truth, as embodied by Jesus and revealed in God's Word, is objective and unchanging, and rejecting this truth leads to dire consequences.
Good morning, family. Today, we embark on a journey through the scriptures, specifically John 18:37-38 and Romans 1:18-23. We are going to explore a profound, yet sometimes neglected truth - the reality of objective truth, that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and the consequences of rejecting this objective truth.
We live in a world where people often make truth a subjective thing, based on personal feelings or perspective. Yet, the Word of God teaches us that truth is not subjective, but objective. Truth stands firm regardless of our feelings or opinions. It remains the same yesterday, today, and forever.
In the world we live in today, the concept of truth has become increasingly subjective, often shaped by personal feelings, experiences, and perspectives. This subjective truth is malleable, changing with the winds of societal norms and personal whims. However, the Word of God presents a starkly different understanding of truth. It teaches us that truth is not subjective, but objective. Objective truth is unchanging, unyielding, and unaffected by personal feelings or societal trends. It stands firm, irrespective of our opinions or emotions. It remains the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Embodied in the person of Jesus Christ: In the Gospel of John, Jesus declares Himself to be the embodiment of truth. When Pilate asks Him if He is a king, Jesus responds, "You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause, I was born, and for this cause, I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice." Here, Jesus is not only affirming His kingship but also His identity as the embodiment of truth. He states that His purpose in coming into the world was to bear witness to the truth. This truth is not a set of propositions or doctrines, but a person – Jesus Himself.
A living reality that has profound implications for our lives: It shapes our understanding of the world, our relationships with others, and our relationship with God. It provides a firm foundation for our beliefs and actions, giving us confidence and assurance in a world of uncertainty and change.
Has been revealed to us by God: In Romans, Paul writes, "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them." God has made His truth known to us, not only through His Word but also through His creation. His invisible attributes, His eternal power, and divine nature are clearly seen and understood through the things He has made.
Many choose to suppress the truth: They reject the objective truth of God and replace it with their subjective truths. They exchange the glory of the incorruptible God for images made to look like corruptible human beings and animals. This rejection of objective truth leads to futility in their thinking and darkness in their hearts.
Examine our own understanding of truth: Are we embracing the objective truth of Jesus Christ, or are we being swayed by the subjective truths of our culture and our own hearts? Are we building our lives on the firm foundation of God's truth, or are we building on the shifting sands of human wisdom and opinion?
