Summary: A no name who is a loser. Why would Jesus want anyone to remember her? There is sobering reason for you to consider.

Why should we remember her?

Luke 17:32

32 Remember Lot’s wife. (KJV)

32 Acordaos de la esposa de Lot. (RVG04)

In Luke 17:26-30, Christ comments on two times in history of the judgment of God on mankind, and likens them to the way it will be at the Lord’s return.

-The flood came after 120 years of warning, Sodom was destroyed within 12 hours of warning.

One was by water, the latter by fire and brimstone.

Noah was able to salvage all of his possessions; Lot lost all of his belongings.

We remember our great leaders and heros and celebrate special days and events in their honor.

Example: George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Columbus

In the Bible there are the patriarchs, prophets, judges, kings, apostles, etc.; but Jesus, in all of His recorded words, only tells us to remember one person---the wife of Lot.

We do not even know her name or her lineage. There is barely mention of her in a couple of bible verses.

Three Lessons:

1. She was Almost Saved--- the mercy and grace reached out to her and the angels literally snatched her out of Sodom (Gn. 19:16)

--so close to safety; visited by divine intervention

2. She Perished

--How much sadder the story is to know that extra measures were taken and recovery was in process, and yet, it was a lost cause.

3. Her Failure and Fate are a Warning to Us.

--Don’t delay any longer. Every day in the world, one becomes more intertwined and. entrapped.

--Don’t play with the grace of God. Even grace has its limits.

--Don’t hesitate in your leaving the world behind. In a moment of hesitation, she stalled, reflected, and took one quick look back at her former life.

--Be accountable to someone you have confidence in. This woman was behind her husband, when she should have been alongside him.

Amos 3:3

3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed? (KJV)

3 ¿Andarán dos juntos, si no estuvieren de acuerdo? (RVG04)

The Message of Salvation preached by an Angel----Gen. 19:17

17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. (KJV)

17 Y fue que cuando los hubo llevado fuera, dijo: Escapa por tu vida; no mires tras ti, ni pares en toda esta llanura; escapa al monte, no sea que perezcas. (RVG04)

----After a forced evacuation, the angel preaches them a direct message on the road outside of Sodom.

I. Escape for your Life

Run from the world. Run from temptation.

God will judge sin and the sinner.

If you play with fire, you will get burnt.

Acts 2:40

40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. (KJV)

40 Y con otras muchas palabras testificaba y exhortaba, diciendo: Sed salvos de esta perversa generación. (RVG04)

A "call" word of Paul is "FLEE"

Flee fornication

Flee idolatry

Flee youthful lusts

II. Don’t Look Back

--look to Jesus (Heb. 12:2)

--forget those things that are behind you (Phil. 3:13)

Luke 9:62

62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. (KJV)

62 Y Jesús le dijo: Ninguno que poniendo su mano en el arado y mira hacia atrás, es apto para el reino de Dios. (RVG04)

III. Don’t Stay in the Plain

Finish your course. Halfway is not good enough.

Distance yourself from the evil.

1 Thes. 5:22

22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. (KJV)

22 Absteneos de toda apariencia de mal. (RVG04)

IV. Escape to the Mountain

Upward and Onward in the Lord.

There is safety and blessing as we press toward the higher heights of God.

The mountain is a place of advantage.

God made her a monument of His displeasure.
