Series: The Power of the Name (Philippians 2: 9-10 ~ Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;)
Sermon 1: What Is His Name?
Scripture : Exodus 3:13-14 ~ And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. (KJV)
As the Spirit shines his light of illumination upon this text, we discover that there is none liken unto our God. Nobody can compare with Jehovah God.
I believe it was Isaiah, who records, "Before me there was God formed, and there will be none after me; I, even I, am the Lord Jehovah, and there is no Savior beside me."
It was Jeremiah who writes to us, "Call unto me," Jeremiah 33:3, "and I will answer thee, and shew you great and mighty things."
David found himself in trouble sure enough, but it was in trouble that he found out that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear though the earth be remover and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea." (Psalm 46:1-2)
I had to learn that God is so bad till he is everything I need before I need it, and he is ready to perform at the point of my neeed to the extremity of my need.
When I need a provider, I can look in his word and find out:
Psalms 36:8 ~ They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
John 10:10 ~ The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
2 Corinthians 9:8 ~ And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
Ephesians 3:20 ~ Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
Philippians 4:19 ~ But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
2 Peter 1:11 ~ For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
When I need him to be a Protector, I can look in His word and find out:
Exodus 14:14 ~ The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
2 Chronicles 16:9 ~ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
Psalm 34:7 ~ The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
Zechariah 2:5 ~ For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.
When I need him to be a preparer, I can look in his word and find:
Psalm 23:1 ~ Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Psalm31:19 ~ Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!
Matthew 22:4 ~ Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared : and all things are ready: come.
Matthew 25:34 ~ Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
John 14:2 ~ In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Let me that alone. I’m sorry, that’s another sermon.
Paul lets us know in Philippians 2:9-10 "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;" to the glory of God.
