What Is God's Plan For You?

Summary: After preaching this sermon, 62 people came forward at invitation.
In DEUTERONOMY 12:1, we are told that God had given His commands to the Israelites in the land He was giving them, and instructed them to keep those laws. He gave them the land so they could all assemble together in one place.
In PSALM 132:7, we are told,
‘Let’s go to the Lord’s house. Let’s worship at His footstool.’
In HEBREWS 10:25, it tells us not to forsake the gathering together as some are in the habit of doing. Time after time, God is telling us to assemble together and be diligent about it. He knows that when we are separated from the whole body of Christ, or when we are alone, we too often forget the need to worship Him.
How many people in today’s churches let things come up that keep them from going to church? Now, I understand there are things that will come up to legitimately keep you away from church, but those things are the exception, not the rule. Yet, too many people make up excuse after excuse to get out of going to God’s house. I know, because I used to be one of them!
I have seen people over the years who professed to be Christians, but would make excuses to get out of going to church for the Christmas and Easter services. The two most important days to a Christian, and they let other things become more important to them. I think it becomes necessary for some to do some self-examination to see how they really feel about the Lord.
In the 3rd chapter of COLOSSIANS, I find two verses that tell us very clearly how we are to worship the Lord.
In verse 17, it says,
‘Everything you do or say should be done to obey Jesus, your Lord. And in all you do, give thanks to God the Father through Jesus.’
And, in verse 23, it again reminds us,
‘In all the work you are doing, work the best you can. Work as if you were doing it for the Lord, not for people.’
If God told you to go out and build a house for Him, I am sure that each one of us would eagerly do our parts in a most eager manner. Well, God has asked us to do just that. But that house is called His church. In this case, it is called Rolling Hills Christian Church.
I have been told over and over by the elders and different members of the congregation that this church has had no viable leadership in many years. If that is the case, I commend each of you for doing what you did to keep this church going. You will receive God’s glory and rewards someday for your fine efforts.
I want you to know that I am just a man. I have no talents, intelligence, skills or anything else that would let me properly lead you anywhere, except those found in Christ. He leads me. I try to always be a willing vessel.
He has placed me hear to do a job, and that job is to lead this church as it begins to regroup and grow stronger in Him. That also means it will be growing larger in Him as time goes by.
I praise God that He has given me folks like you; folks that will devote themselves to doing what God wants for this church. As I lead this church into the area God wants it to be in, you will find that I will rely more and more on you to help me get it there.
