Summary: A message about our Christian responsibilities to minister to other’s needs.
WHAT IS GOD DOING FOR YOU?
John 2:1-12
INTRO: Two men were talking. One was asking a favor of the other one. The other said: "If I do that for you, what are you going to do for me?" We are always wanting someone to do something for us. How would you like for God to do something special just for you? He has in the past, and will in the present and future. Sometimes this passage is used to show that Jesus was an obedient son, or that he loves a good time, but the meaning is much deeper than that.
I. GIVE YOU LOVE FOR PEOPLE (vv. 1-4 ).
Jesus was at a marriage feast in Canal They needed wine—Jesus mother told him about the need. He was obedient, loving, and cared for the People.
ILLUS: “All In The Family” program about Archie Bunkers’ needing a blood transfusion. He had a rare type, and a black man was the only one found who had that type of blood.
Are there some people you just do not like? No matter how hard you try, you just cannot come to love some people? Jesus can give you love for all people. Not for what they do, but for them because they are God’s creation too.
II. GIVE YOU DEPENDABILITY (v. 5).
Mary knew she could count on Jesus to do what she asked because he was obedient. HE WAS DEPENDABLE! She told the servants to do whatever he told them to do. She didn’t have to keep after Him. He did it the first time.
ILLUS: Old ford car that broke down about every time I drove it. I needed a car I could depend upon.
Why is it God has to keep reminding us of our commitment and vows to Him?
Why aren’t we dependable? Why can’t we do things the first time? Why must God allow things to happen to us before we will pay any attention to Him? We can be dependable in Jesus.
III. GIVE YOU A QUALITY LIFE (vv. 6-12).
The 6 waterpots were commanded to be filled. Jesus brought forth the NEW WINE. This was the best according to the host.
ILLUS: We like quality in what we have (cars, clothes. appliances etc.).
God wants for us and from us the very best. He want’s his people to have a quality life. He wants to provide us with this life.
CONC: What is God going to do for me this week that I cannot do for myself? Give me these three things, provided I open my life to Him.
