What God Wants

October 26, 2014 Evening Service

Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: God wants us to do justice, love kindness, and walk in humility.

Focus Passage: Micah 6:6-8

Introduction: Some of the most dreaded words from any parent: “Find something to do or I’ll give you something to do!” Sometimes, we need a reminder of what God wants us to be doing; how He wants us to behave….

I. Do Justice

a. Treat each other justly (Temper the Law of God with the Grace of God)

b. Require justice and proper judgment in civil life

c. "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." (John 7:24 NASB)

II. Love Kindness (mercy)

a. not only to do what justice requires, but also what mercy, kindness, benevolence, and charity require.

b. Kindness is a Fruit of the Spirit

c. "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. (Matthew 5:7 NASB)

d. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. (Romans 12:6-8 NASB)

III. Walk Humbly

a. Humility is a theme of the entire Bible

b. But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE." (James 4:6 NASB)

c. Seek the LORD, All you humble of the earth Who have carried out His ordinances; Seek righteousness, seek humility. Perhaps you will be hidden In the day of the LORD'S anger. (Zephaniah 2:3 NASB)

d. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Philippians 2:5-8 NASB)
