Message Point: God expects us to behave like the Redeemed of the Lord, not like a bunch of sinners.
Focus Passage: Matthew 22:34-40
Supplemental Passage: (Micah 6:8 NASB) He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?
Introduction:
I. Love God
a. John 14:15 "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
b. 1 Peter 1:16 "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY."
c. James 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
d. Acts 16:31 "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved,"
II. Love Others
a. John 13:34-35 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
b. Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
c. 1 Thessalonians 5:13-15 Live in peace with one another. We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.
d. John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.
Invitation: The ultimate expression of love toward God is to accept His gift of eternal life through Jesus.
