Sermons

Summary: Here, in this sermon, we will learn our God's expectation in the life of His children. This study will help to know better the desire in God's heart.

Micah 6:8

He has shown you, O man, what is good;

And what does the Lord require of you

But to do justly, to love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God.

Deuteronomy 10:12,13

And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you,

But to fear the Lord your God,

to walk in all His ways and to love Him,

to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

and to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes

which I command you today for your good?

Micah 6:8

The response of a godly heart is outward (do justice), inward (love mercy), and upward (walk humbly).

1). To do JUSTLY

God expects us to do JUSTICE. God wants us to live with a sense of right and wrong. There is so much of injustice around us. God wants us to provide equity and protect the innocent. We must be absolutely just in the way we treat others. Doing Justice is the OUTWARD response of a godly heart.

2). To love MERCY

God expects us to be MERCIFUL. Along with Justice, God wants us to provide Mercy. God expects His people to show love to their fellow man. Being Merciful is the INWARD response of a godly heart.

3). To WALK humbly with your God

God expects us to walk in HUMILITY with Him. “Walk humbly” is a description of the heart’s attitude toward God. God’s people should depend on Him rather than their own abilities. Instead of taking pride in what we bring or do to God, we humbly recognize that no amount of personal sacrifice can please God. God does not ask us for our spectacular acts of service – He asks for Humility. Walking Humbly is the UPWARD response of a godly heart.

Deuteronomy 10:12,13

4). To FEAR the Lord

God expects us to have the FEAR OF THE LORD.

# The fear of God is respecting Him, obeying Him, submitting to His discipline, and worshiping Him in awe.

# Fearing God means having a reverence for Him that greatly impacts the way we live.

# A biblical fear of God, for the believer, includes understanding how much God hates sin and fearing His judgment on sin—even in the life of a believer.

5). To WALK in all His ways

God expects us to WALK in all His ways.

# The word “walk” speaks of how we live and behave.

# The phrase “walk in all his ways” means to live “in a way that pleases him”.

# God wants us to follow His example in every way—in holiness, love, and service.

# God’s Word teaches us how we need to walk in this world

– Walk with Wise People (Proverbs 13:20)

– Walk with Godly People (Psalm 1:1)

– Walk Properly (Romans 13:9-14)

– Walk Humbly (Micah 6:8)

– Walk in Uprightness (Proverbs 14:2)

– Walk with Integrity (Proverbs 10:9)

– Walk in the Right Path (Proverbs 4:11)

– Walk in the Light (1 John 1:7)

6). To LOVE Him

God expects us to LOVE Him.

# God requires our love. Our love for God should not be half-hearted; rather, we yearn for Him like a wild deer which pants for streams of water (Psalm 42:1 … As a deer longs for streams of water, so my soul longs for you, O God).

# God always makes the first move but invites our loving response in return (1 John 4:19 … We love Him because He first loved us).

7). To SERVE the Lord

God expects us to SERVE Him whole-heartedly with all our heart and soul.

# Serving God is not a forced obligation but a free, natural, and joy-filled response to the love God has lavished on us.

# Love serves, not as a servant, but as someone who is in love.

8). To KEEP the commandments

God expects us to KEEP all His commandments.

# When we observe the Lord’s commands, we prove our love for Him (John 14:15 … If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.)

# When we observe the Lord’s commands, we show our faithfulness to Him (1 John 2:3–5 … By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.).

# Moreover, the Lord asks us to obey His commands for our benefit: (Psalm 19:8 … The laws of the Lord are right, and those who obey them are happy. The commands of the Lord are just and give understanding to the mind).
