Summary: Are God's thoughts good or bad when he thinks about you?

Psalm 8

What do you think when you see, The England Football Team, Tony Blair, a lady wearing the Bearcat.

People some times say “I’ll think for myself” or “no one tells me what to think” the truth is our thinking is often preconditioned or influenced by significant others such as parents or teachers while growing up, the media, past experience or by what we hear others say which can be gossip or a good report. Unknown to many our thinking is influenced by the spiritual strongholds that blind our thinking to God’s truth (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

Have you ever wondered what God thinks when he sees you?

“Oh that’s the one that broke into a shop and only got away with curly wurlys” or “that’s the one who threw petrol bombs in Belfast.”

David says in Psalm 8 “God is mindful of man” this means God is thinking about you. You are always on His Mind.

God has a mind of his own which has not been influenced by the people who don’t like you, God’s thoughts about you are not influenced by how you think about yourself, nor has God’s thinking concerning you been prejudiced by how you may have messed up before you came to Christ or how you may have blown it this week?

When David considered the wonders of God’s creation he was amazed that God was mindful of men women and children. David was astounded God cared so much about men, women and children.

The simple reason God thinks so much about you is because he loves you and because He loves you so much he is making a fantastic job of making you the best person you can possibly be.

Here are just few things that God reveals about what he thinks about you and why he thinks that way;

God made you, you are His workmanship - you are wonderfully made

Ps 139:13-14 ...For you created my inmost being.... I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

You are deeply loved Jer 31:3 The LORD...says: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.”

You are not rejected Isa 41:9 “...I have chosen you and have not rejected you.”

You are precious in God’s sight Is 43:4 … you are precious and honoured in my sight, and …I love you

You are the ‘apple’ of God’s eye Zec 2:8 ...This is what the LORD Almighty says…whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye

You are forgiven Luke 5:20 When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven....”

You are God’s friend John 15:15 “.... I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”

You are God’s child John 1:12-13 To all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

You are God’s delight Ps 150:4 The LORD takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with salvation.

God is with you and you are His joy Zep 3:17 The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.

You have a hope and a future Jer 29:11-13 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Some thing we need to remind ourselves of is that God does not change His mind (Numbers 23:19) God never gets up in a bad mood and goes off you for the day, God does not dislike you one day and maybe like you the next day if you do Him a favour. God is always thinking the best about you.

Isaiah asked “who can understand the mind of God” Isa 40:13. Paul repeats this statement in 2Cor 2:16 but adds “we have the mind of Christ.”

So important we grasp this; the strongholds or patterns of thinking we have about ourselves no long need to be dominated by our damaged preconditioned thinking, because we have the mind of Christ which simply means we can think how God thinks.

So when the thoughts and feeling of; you are failure, your are useless, you are disappointment to others comes to mind, because we have the mind of Christ we can take those thoughts captive and make them obedience to Christ and replace them with I have a hope, God is singing over me, I am God’s child, I am God’s friend.
