Summary: What does God’s love do? It saves, refreshes, and compels us to want to be obedient to Him!

What does God’s love do?

Deuteronomy 7:7-9

Introduction

- In a world full of so much division, where do we turn for hope?

• World’s answer: Find happiness within yourself

• God’s answer: Turn to Him for everything you need

- God’s love has so much for us, if we’d only be willing to accept it

- Read Deuteronomy 7:7-9

- Pray

- From the earliest manuscripts, we’re shown God’s love

-- In today’s passage, I see three specific things …

Point 1 – It saves us

- His love is a perfect picture of giving us what we don’t deserve (v6-7)

- We have been chosen (not just a few, but all – John 3:16, For God so...)

-- He sets His affections on us; He personally says, “I choose you”

- His love wasn’t given because we are so numerous and great

-- But given because we were the fewest and in desperate need of it

-- Bible says we are “sinners saved by Grace” … not our grace, but His

- It’s free; doesn’t come with strings (agape)

-- Best news: We cannot earn it, it is already offered to us

- IMP APP: His love saves us by His ways, not our own

-- Need to know ourselves: we wouldn’t choose it willingly (like our sin)

-- Rather, we were chosen; His choice offers us salvation; “v6 - treasured”

Point 2 – It refreshes us

- God’s love gives a new opportunity (v8) … Look what He did …

• God swore an oath to protect them

• God physically brought them out of slavery

- APP: God has not stopped keeping His word or delivering us either

- When we feel like we can do no more, we need to remember Him

-- Remember what He has said (to be with us, to be faithful, to redeem us)

- These should be refreshing promises in this world of challenges!!

-- Specifically, His love ought to be refreshing to our soul:

• Give us energy to want more

• Remind us of what He has done … Psalms study, “Time to praise”

• Challenges us to be more like Christ

- God is perfect example of faithfulness … we ought to want to experience more

Point 3 – It compels us

- God is faithful (v9) “… keeps His covenant to 1,000 generations”

- His faithfulness should move us – it should drive us (spend some time here)

• To go and make disciples (most important task for us)

• To want others to know what you know (how to be redeemed)

• To be effective/faithful witnesses (upcoming: evangelism opportunities)

- I’m compelled to start doing some things – Mike is also ready to go

-- Said, “Even if it’s just you, me, a guitar, some tracts, and the cross”

-- We should be compelled to want to show others – it’s b/c of Him

-- Stay tuned for more opportunities on this …

- God’s love ought to compel us to share; to not be afraid

-- If His Son can suffer on a cross for me, the least I can do is live for Him

Big Idea

- What does God’s love do? Saves, refreshes, and compels (Re-read v9, EXP)

- CHAL: What you do with it says what it has done for you …

- Pray
