Summary: What description would you give to Christian maturity?
What Does A Mature Christian Look Like?
[Colossians 1:9-12]
Pious? Holy? Incurably happy? (Dramatize/adlib a little)
Paul gave a description of a mature Christian in these verses.
Actually it was his pray for the believers at Colosse
1. A mature Christian has a thorough grasp of God’s will. (9)
God’s will for us is revealed in God’s Word.
God never intended for His will to be a mystery.
2. A mature Christian lives a life-style that pleases the Lord. (10)
Literal idea = “pleasing Him in all respects”
Pleasing Him in our thoughts, words, and actions...
See 2 Corinthians 5:9
3. A mature Christian will have the Lord’s spiritual strength to face life’s challenges. (11)
We cannot successfully cope with life’s challenges in our own strength!
God can give us the strength we need for the challenge no matter how difficult it may be.
4. A mature Christian will be constantly grateful for all the Lord has done for them. (12)
Think of it as an “attitude of gratitude”.
The inheritance reminds us of Israel’s inheritance in Canaan.
How often do we pray such prayers for ourselves and others?
Too often, I’m afraid, we pray for the quick fix for our temporary problems.
