LUKE 16:5 “WHAT DO WE OWE THE LORD?”

A) Every person sitting in this congregation today owes some type of bills!

* Home, Car, Power, Water, Gas, Taxes, Insurance, Credit Cards, Alimony ... etc.

* HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ... WHAT IF GOD SENT HIS BILL .......

(1) THE BILL FOR HOUSE RENT!

* This world is the house that God built for us to live in, and it comes already furnished!

A) What carpet - The green grass interwoven with beautiful flowers!

* What a ceiling ... The beautiful blue sky! * Psa.19:1 “The heavens declare the .......”

* What light fixtures ... The sun, the moon and the stars!

* What a front door - The flaming sunrise through which the days comes in!

B) What a back door - The beautiful sunset in which the days go out!

* WHAT WOULD YOU PAY FOR A HOUSE LIKE THIS?

* HOW MUCH DO WE OWE THE LORD?

(2) THE BILL FOR POWER, WATER, GAS, GASOLINE?

A) Think of the one thing you cannot live without!

* OXYGEN ... WHAT IF GOD CHARGED FOR IT?

* 5 Cents a breath @ 13 times a minute = $0.65 ... $39.00 an hour ... $936.00 a day!

* $6,552.00 a week ... $28,370.16 a month! * Could you afford it?

* WHAT IF GOD SENT HIS BILL ... HOW MUCH DO WE OWE THE LORD?

(3) THE BILL FOR FOOD!

A) You and I have never known the sickening horror of having nothing to eat!

* We eat like Kings ... We throw more food away than some kids will ever get!

* Thank God for the food we eat! * You might say, “Now preacher, I buy my own food.”

* But if it wasn’t for God, the food would not be there to buy!

B) Mrs. Green thanked Tom, the grocery boy, for delivering a loaf of bread!

* “Do not thank me. Thank Grocer Jones,” Tom smiled, “He gave me the loaf to deliver.”

* But when she thanked the grocer, he said, “I get the bread from Baker Brown. He makes it, so he

deserves the thanks,” so Mrs. Green thanked the baker.

* But he told her that Miller Milligan should be given the gratitude.

* “Without Miller Milligan’s flour, I could not make bread,” Brown replied.

* Then miller told her to thank Farmer Foster because he made the flour from Foster’s wheat.

* But the farmer also protested, “Don’t thank me; thank God,” Foster said.

* “If He did not give my farm sunshine and rain, I could not grow wheat.”

* Yes, even a common loaf of bread can be traced back to God, the Giver of “every good and

perfect gift!”

* WHAT IF GOD SENT HIS BILL ... HOW MUCH DO WE OWE THE LORD?

(4) THE BILL FOR THE FAMILY! * Where did you get your Family from? * From God!

* Have you a good wife or husband? * Was it just good luck?

* Prov.19:14 “A prudent wife is from the Lord.” * Prudent: good, in all sense of the word.

* Prov.18:22 “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.”

A) What if you woke up in the morning and your wife was dead, Mister?

* Do you have children? * Can they see, can they walk and talk and even sing?

* THEN PRAISE GOD! * HOW MUCH WOULD YOU SELL YOUR CHILDREN FOR?

* If money can’t buy them, then how much do you owe God?

(5) WHAT ABOUT THE REDEMPTION BILL?

A) What if Jesus would not have died on the cross for our sins and paid the price for us?

* If Jesus had not paid the sin debt on the cross, You and I would have to pay it by burning in the

everlasting lake of fire forever and ever!

* HOW MUCH DO WE OWE THE LORD?

B) HOW CAN WE REPAY THE LORD? * In Psalm 116:12 “What shall I render unto the .......”

* First, we can give God our lives in total surrender to his will!

* Second, we can give Him of our tithes and offerings and gifts!

* What gift are you giving Jesus this Christmas?

* What if everyone tithed next Sunday and the next?

* I believe we owe it to God and I believe God would bless us for doing so!

CLOSE

A) I AM THANKFUL FOR ... The taxes I pay because it means I’m employed!

* The clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat!

* A lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing because it

means I have a home!

* The spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking!
