What Are You Seeking?

Summary: The world is gripped in a whirlwind of materialism. The rat race for fame, wealth, power, pleasure and other carnal desires has swallowed many believers.
TEXT: John 1:37-39
"And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?
He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour."
WHAT SEEK YE?
It was around 4pm in the afternoon, a man dressed in simple attire walked past John and two of his disciples. It was the same man John had testified about as the chosen one of God, the one who will baptize with the Holy Ghost and fire.(John 1:33-34). The two men were even more curious when John declared: "Look! There is the Lamb of God!” (John 1:36). "When the two disciples heard this, they followed Jesus" (John 1:37). Jesus knew they were following him, he turned around, saw them and the following conversation ensued:
Jesus: What seek ye?
Disciples of John: Rabbi, where dwellest thou?
Jesus: Come and see.
The two disciples followed him home and stayed with him. They became the disciples of Jesus. One of them was Andrew, the other was not named.
WHAT IS YOUR PRIORITY?
What are you seeking in life? The word of God says: "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matt 6:33). The question Jesus asked the disciples of John is still pertinent today. What seek ye? Andrew found Jesus and followed him. He realised that Jesus was the Messiah, the Saviour of the world. Like the other Apostles, he left all to follow the giver of life, the light of the world. John 1:4 says: "In him was life; and the life was the light of men." The Lord will flood your heart with his light in Jesus name.
The world is gripped in a whirlwind of materialism. The rat race for fame, wealth, power, pleasure and other carnal desires has swallowed many believers. Is the kingdom of God your first priority as a disciple of Christ? The first thing Andrew did was to invite his brother Peter. How many of us disciples have time to preach the gospel of Christ to friends, neighbours and family members? Andrew identified Jesus as Rabbi (master), he sought the house of the master and dwelt there with him. How many disciples today are willing to surrender all to Jesus as Master? How many care about the house of the master and fellowship regularly with him? Are we not seeking all other things first before the kingdom and righteousness of God? What are you seeking in the world? Jesus is calling you today: "Come and see."
SEEK JESUS.
Jesus wants a deeper intimacy with you. He wants you to open your heart totally to him. Jesus wants you to seek him above all else.
PRAYER
Father grant me the grace to put you first above all else in my life in Jesus name.
CONFESSION:
I stand on the righteousness of Christ.
God bless you. Shalom.
