Summary: A 3 point sermon on the subject of baptism and what it says about those who are being baptized.
What a Baptism Says
* The example- Jn. 1:29-34
* The explanation- 1st Cor 15:1-4 & Rom 6:1-4
* The expectation- Matt 28:19 & Acts 2:38,47 & Acts 9:18
I. Someone has been saved
* “saved” = approx 50 times in N.T. in relation to being rescued.
* rescued from what? Sins power, punishment, presence ( eventually)
* They have:
A. Believed
Heb. 6:11.…Mark 1:15.…John 1:12.…2nd Tim. 1:12
B. Born again
Jn. 3:3.…1st Pet. 1:23.….1st John 3:1
II. Someone is being submissive
* willfully acknowledging baptism as a command to be followed
A. Obedience
Baptism is an early step in a life of ordered steps to follow
You can be in rebellion to God early on if you resist
Obedience is the way to a joyful and successful Christian life
B. Open Testimony
Philippian Jailor Acts 16:31- Believed
16:33- Baptized
16: 33-34 Began a new life (openly) in Christ
III. Someone is being sent
* Baptism is just the beginning
A. Learn the Word
Observe whatsoever He has commanded us (Matt 28)
In keeping the Word we will find great reward (Ps.19)
Meditate on it day and night ( Ps. 1)
B. Live the witness
Walk in the newness of the life of Christ ( Rom 6)
Walk in the Joy of the life of Christ (Acts 8:39)
