What’s Your Job In His Kingdom?

35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

As you know we always try to go through the other Gospels to see if any other writer included the same situation that we are studying. I can tell you that there is no other Gospel writer that includes this specific teaching of our Lord. Now, some may smile and say, ‘Ah ha’, yes there is another Gospel which covers this teaching of our Lord’s. They will refer to the Gospel of Luke in chapter 10. So, okay, let’s see what Luke wrote.

Luke 10: 1 – 3, “After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go. 2 Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.

So, let’s see a show of hands who think that Luke’s version covers what we are studying today? So, for those of you who disagree, I believe you are right, like me. You win a cookie. Why? If you notice Luke’s version he does mention about how the harvest needs more laborers. But if you notice in today’s Scripture our Lord Is the One Who Is going and preaching. In Luke’s version our Precious Holy Lord commissions His disciples and instructs them to go out and preach and say the same thing that He has already said about the harvest. Do you see the differences?

Are you ready to hear me complain again about something that really bothers me? Well you really do not get to vote on your answer. Here is something that gets on my nerves. In what I am about to say, that if you are doing this, I pray that you will be convicted and not do it anymore.

I got you a little concerned now, haven’t I? Well, it is not that overwhelming. We are coming upon the best time of the year for me and that is Christmas. I just love everything, the music, food, get together, etc. If you have young children than you get to hear them sing or maybe play their musical instruments.

You get everybody’s parents and grandparent’s in addition to siblings and possible aunt’s and uncle’s. In the beginning of the performance you have everyone applauding the first participants. So, then you have the ignorant people who have had everyone give their child accolades and they are so busy they leave the show after their kid has performed. This stinks in my opinion. By the time the last group goes on stage you have half and audience left. Shame, shame on those people who leave.

So, why does this subject come up to me? Can you see the match to our bible story. Suppose you or I was given the gift of healing? As you know it is not us who has the ability but it is our Wonderful Holy Spirit Who does the miracles. He just allows us to be part of the process. I know you understand this truth. Do you think people would come out to hear you preach about our Great Holy King, our Lord Jesus Christ? No, they would show up because they want the healing.

Please notice how our Lord organizes His ministry. He preaches the Good News of the Kingdom, then after He Is finished preaching, He heals and performs other miracles.

Here is a verse worth meditating upon. Just look at our Loving Creator. He has given the people the Good News regarding His Forgiveness and Eternal Life in His Kingdom. He then goes on to heal everyone there. Isn’t that enough? Not in God’s eyes. He looks around at all the people who have been going through all the pains of life, exhausted, tired, and leaderless. His heart is moved for them. This is why folks He was willing to give up His Holy Position in Heaven and come to earth. He was willing to forsake all to Shepherd us all. He was willing to give His life for us. Thank You Lord Jesus.
